3D Touch Gives More Options For iPhone 6s

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015 by | Filed Under: iOS, Smartphones

The slogan for Apple’s new iPhone 6s is “The only thing that’s changed is everything.”  The change the company seems most excited about is 3D Touch.

3D Touch is a more pressure sensitive display. You can pull up various menus depending on how hard you tap the screen.  Apple says that this screen will let you do things you never thought were possible before. But I don’t think pulling up menus by touching touch screens was out of what most people would consider the realm of possibility.

One difference with 3D Touch is that the screen actually does tap back to let you know you’ve completed an action.

Among the new touch features is Peek and Pop. If you give content a light press, you’ll be able to get a preview. Lightly press an e-mail to get quick peek at the content. Press harder to open the full e-mail.

You can also preview a website b pressing the link lightly. You’ll get a preview of the page and its content without leaving the screen you’re working on. If you decide you want to then visit the page, press a little harder and the full page will open in Safari.

You’ll also be able to preview photos while still using the camera app. Press a photo lightly full the preview or harder to open the photo.

You’ll also be able to get a quick look at a location by pressing an address in a text or e-mail. A slight press will bring up a map of the area, while a longer press will fully open a full map.

The iPhone 6s is available for pre-order now with prices starting at $649 for the 4.7″ phone and $749 for the 5.5″ iPhone 6s Plus.

Apple always likes to pretend everything they produce is the greatest thing ever invented, though in actuality many companies are like that. They are also a lot like politicians even when they didn’t dream something up they act like they did.
