Adjusting the Size of Taskbar Icons

Nancy asks:

For some reason my icons on the taskbar are larger. I don’t know how they got that way. How can I make them smaller? I use XP Professional SP3.

Nancy, you can set the Quick Launch bar icon size to either size, large or small. First, right click an empty area on the Taskbar, and uncheck Lock the Taskbar.

Then, right click on an open space in the quick launch section of the Taskbar and select the View menu. From there, you can either check Large or Small Icons. This same method works in Vista.

If you can’t find an open space in the quick launch section, or if you don’t find the View option in the menu, right click on the drag handle (see detail below).

Once you’ve made your choice, you can lock the Taskbar again, and everything will remain locked in place.

This can also be done in Windows 7, by right clicking on the Taskbar and selecting Properties.

In the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box, under the Taskbar tab, either check or uncheck Use small icons, depending on which size is preferred.

And you’re all set.

Thanks for the question, Nancy.
