Adobe, the maker of popular products like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Premiere, After Effects and Acrobat is ending the sale of physical discs in stores at the end of April.
Consumers who want to purchase the product will need to download them or subscribe to the Adobe Creative Cloud which charges a monthly subscription fee of $50 per month. Many new computers don’t even have a disc drive and companies like Adobe and Microsoft are pushing consumers toward a subscription-based model for software products.
Microsoft was faced with a backlash when they announced that consumers who purchased the single-license non-subscription version of Office 2013 would not be allowed to transfer it to another computer, even if their computer failed. They have since changed that policy.
