Advanced System Protector Personal Edition is a free spyware remover, available from Systweak . In addition to spyware and malware removal, it offers plenty of scanning options, including scheduling. However, the free version doesn’t provide any real time protection (referred to as shields). To download, click on the blue Download button. You will then be taken to a second page, and given the option to continue downloading the free version, or to purchase the paid version.
Once the program is downloaded, it automatically updates. When the updates are complete and the program is launched, the interface is incredibly simple to operate, with a large green Start Scan Now button in the center of the window.
Three choices are available for scanning; Quick Scan, Deep Scan, and Custom Scan. The first Quick Scan here took nearly an hour and revealed 3 items. The Custom Scan provides an option for selecting areas to be scanned or ignored, with Files and Folders, Cookies, Memory, and Registry among the choices.
At the top, you’ll see 4 tabs. The program opens in the Scan Status tab. There’s also a Shield tab which, unless you’ve purchased the paid version, won’t do you much good. The shields are only available in the paid version. The Settings tab is where you’ll find the many scheduling options available. You can choose to schedule daily, weekly, or intermittent cleanings. There’s also an Auto Start scheduling option. This runs the scanner at startup, to help find and quarantine spyware designed to run on startup.
Also included in Settings, are Scan Settings, Quarantine settings, Active Protection settings (these affect application launch), and the Exclusion List. With this, you can exclude certain files and folders from the scanning process.
Under the Quarantine tab is the Ignore List, where you can add spyware types to be ignored by the scanner.
Several additional options are available in the paid version, including an array of shields to prevent infections, but all-in-all, the free version seems very effective.
