Android Phone Out Of Room? Clear Space Fast

Monday, November 16th, 2015 by | Filed Under: Android

Here’s one of my absolute favorite fast Android tips.  It’s made a lot of my friends happy when I showed it to them.  Is the hard drive on you Android phone running out of room? There’s an easy and fast way to clear up possibly several GBs of space in seconds.

Here’s how to do it:

Go to Settings and find Storage. On my phone it’s under the More tab, but it could vary depending on your phone.

Then I want you to scroll down to Storage and tap on it. Now it may take a few seconds for the information to load.

Go to Cached data. As you can see, there’s more than 1 GB taken up on my phone, but the first time I did this I cleared 6 GB.

Tap Cached data and you’ll see the option to Clear all cached data. Choose OK.

It should only take a few seconds to clear out the data and make room on your phone.

I tried doing this yesterday, but the system said the security didn’t allow me to clear the cache. How do I fix that?

Ok. So you’ve given tips on clearing out space on an Android phone….what about tips for an iPhone 5S. ?

Clearing cache is a good idea for freeing up internal memory from time to time, although some apps may initially run slower since they don’t have that cache to draw from again and have to rebuild it. Cache is essentially a memory bank that the operating system and apps can draw previously-stored information from quickly… if an Android user is not experiencing significant lag, then it may be better to leave the cache as it is.

But the question “is the hard drive on your Android phone running out of room?” is very misleading. Smartphones do not have hard drives: rather, they have internal flash memory that is entirely chip-based. Many phones also have expandable storage via microSD card, which is also chip-based. These flash memory chips have a read-write life cycle that should last longer than the expected lifetime of the device, but clearing out the cache and forcing it to rebuild too often may shorten the life of the memory chips by reading and writing more often. Something else to consider when deciding to clear out cache.

It’s a pain to do this all by hand. Download a product called Clean Master. It’s a suite made up of a cleaner, battery extender, security, virus scanner, and system cooler but you don’t have to get all of that you can just pick and choose. Run it and all the junk will be gone! The first time I ran it on my friends Samsung 5 it cleaned nearly 3 gig (I have been using it for years and it’s never deleted anything I wanted to keep!)

Is it possible to delete some Google apps from my Galaxy 2. I have run Clean master which has not changed the device memory (Total 1.97GB – Available 276MB)It did seem to delete about 2GB of something.
I have plenty of USB and SD card storage and have moved as many apps as I can to them using Apps 2 SD.
I do not want to root the device.
