Android – What’s that Icon?

Posted By Andrew On May 29, 2013 @ 2:00 PM In Android | Comments Disabled

I try my best to keep abreast of the technology I carry, but sometimes things slip by and catch me off guard. So, when I saw a strange icon on my Galaxy S3′s status bar, I panicked a little…

“Was I roaming? Would the charges be massive? Am I in Canada again?”

So I did what any tech-savvy individual would do in my shoes – I Googled it. It turns out that the notification icon in question tells me I’m on a “Network Extender”, which (at least in Verizon’s case) is a peripheral you can hook up in your house to bolster your cellular coverage [1].

Since the person’s house I was at was way back in the woods, it made perfect sense – sense that was confirmed later when I left and the icon disappeared.

Mystery solved…until next time!
