I got an e-mail from someone the other day asking how they could play .ape files on their computer. I thought that was very interesting and I decided to do a little research on it. It turns out this type of file goes along with an audio compressor called Monkey’s Audio. (Get it? Ape and monkey. I thought it was rather humorous!)
Anyway, .ape files are not as common as say, MP3 files, but it is a file type that is associated with audio and video streams. If one of your songs or videos happens to come in an .ape format, chances are, you will have to reformat it so it will actually work for you. For example, if you’re wanting to play an .ape file on your MP3 player, you’ll have to convert it to an .mp3 file and so on.
All of that is true unless you’re using the Monkey’s Audio program. This is a lossless audio compressor that is known for its efficiency and good sound. This program works by making bit for bit copies of music or video, which makes them sound more like the original. It’s a rather easy way to compress digital files. If you’re able to use it and make it work for you, it’s a good alternative to other file formats when dealing with your music.
Give it a shot, you never know what the monkey (or ape) can do for you!
