Swingin' in the Family Tree

Ever want to trace your family history? If you've ever tried, you already know how difficult it can be.

Well, we have an awesome deal on Broderbund's Family Tree Maker Deluxe. This 20 CD software set makes it incredibly easy to trace your family history.

You just fill out what info you know (from you through your grandparents) and it takes it from there. The info itself is actually entered in a wizard style interface, making tracing your ancestry extremely easy.

Now, to tell you the truth, I'm not really into the who genealogy thing, but my wife is. She has tried several different programs and tells me this one is by far the easiest she has ever used. She went hunting around for deceased grandparents and found them all in a matter of minutes. In fact, it took less than a half hour for her to come up with a partial family tree! In her words, "This thing is great, it's really user friendly."

Here are just a few features:

- Indexes to immigration, census, birth, marriage, military, social security, death, will, cemetery, and land records. In addition it also includes ship and passenger lists. This program even has Revolutionary and Civil War records!!

- Researched family trees. With this feature, you may discover a branch of your family tree and can add it instantly. They give an example on the box of a guy who had 950 names in his tree and was up to 2800 after getting this software!

- Print out your family tree in a variety of formats - even add your own photos!

- Create timelines that show where an ancestor was in the world at a particular time.

- Put together a "family book". Just pick the contents you want included, print it out, and you have a high quality family history book ready in a matter of minutes!

- You can add information to each persons history, creating a story of their life.

- Over 2 billion names are included on the CDs found in this software, so you're bound to find your ancestors.

This only touches the tip of the iceberg. This program is extremely powerful and very easy to use. As I said before, my wife has looked at lots of genealogy software and this is by far the easiest she has ever used. In fact, a few other people thought it was pretty good too:

"The program to turn to for research and information"
- PC Magazine
"The premier genealogical software package"
- FamilyPC
"intuitive and easy to learn"
- TIME Magazine

OK, you want to know the price. This program normally retails for $99.95. We have it (full retail box and instruction manual) for only $29.95!! (that's just a touch over 60% off!) Free US shipping too! Oh, and of course you also have our satisfaction guarantee - if you don't think this software is as cool as we say it is, send it back for a refund.

Q:
How can I tell how much hard drive space I have left?

A:
I get this one a lot. To see how much space you have left, open the My Computer icon on your desktop (or under the Start menu for XP users) and right-click the drive you are curious about (for most people, this would be their C: drive, but this trick works with any drive). Select Properties from the resulting menu.

You'll get a handy little pie chart showing you how much disk space is left.

Tip of the Day

Quicker Exploring

Web link - http://www.worldstart.com/tips/quickerexploring.htm

Here's the deal. You open up My Computer and start browsing for a particular file or folder. About five minutes into it, you realize you would have been better off doing this with Windows Explorer. What to do? Is it time to start over? Is all hope lost? Am I being too dramatic?

Anyhow, when faced with the situation above, most of us would close My Computer, open Explorer, then hunt around for the file again.

Instead, right-click the file or folder you're working with in My Computer and select Explore. Windows Explorer opens up with focus on that area.
