OK, We Think This Is Fixed

Well, we sent partial newsletters out last week. We thought the server was working, but it turns out it was only sending to about half of you.

So, we think we've discovered what the problem was and (hopefully) we're back on track. If you missed last Thursday's or Friday's newsletters, you can see them in all their glory at the archives:

http://www.worldstart.com/archives/index.htm

Hopefully you'll all get this issue, but we won't know till after we send :-)

Did You Miss It?

We're still selling McAfee Anti-Virus & Firewall like crazy. We're already well over 1000 of these sold and the orders just keep coming.

If you missed out, here's the deal. We have McAfee Anti-Virus and Firewall for only $18.97! (Free US Shipping!) The retail value on this current version of the software is almost $100.00, so to say it's a great deal is an understatement!

Again, this software is very user friendly and has been doing a fantastic job on my computer for weeks now.

The anti-virus monitors e-mail attachments, Internet downloads, shared disks, CD-ROMs, and synchronization with your PDA. It also detects destructive ActiveX and Java applets, which are often downloaded without your knowledge while you browse.

The Firewall keeps hackers out of your computer and alerts you to programs that are trying to access the internet. How about that? Hackers are kept at bay and spyware can't spy. Cool huh?

Get to the link ASAP if you want in on this!

Super Clearance!

(We ran this Friday, but I know that about half of you didn't get a chance at it. So, here it is again)

We have a handful of ACT 2000 in stock. Don't let the name fool you - this is still the current version of the program.

This is one of the most popular contact managers on the market. It has a retail of $199.95, we normally sell it at $34.95, but we have it on sale for just $22.68! (FREE US Shipping of course).

It keeps track of all your contacts (you can even divide them into sub-groups), manages your schedule, sends e-mail, keeps a "to-do" list, and has templates to make letter writing a snap (you can even produce personalized bulk-mail letters from your database). Basically, it's about the best software for contact management on the market.

In addition to the above, it can also share data between your computer and Palm Pilot, use caller ID to locate contact records for incoming calls (that's handy), is completely customizable, and can even dial your customers for you!

Frankly, this only scratches the surface of what this program can do. My father has been a salesman all his life and uses this program every day. The amount of time and effort ACT has saved him is incredible. After seeing the success he's had with it, I have no problem recommending it to other people.

Check it out:

This is a one time deal and once it's gone - I can't get more. If you're interested, get to the site ASAP.

Q:
I'm constantly on the Internet and get tired of typing in the full website addresses. Is there a shortcut?

A:
It can get pretty tedious typing in h-t-t-p-semicolon-backslash-backslash-w-w-w-dot-whatever-dot-c-o-m. So next time you're in a hurry and don't want to bother with all of that, try this...

Type the name of the site in the address bar and press Ctrl while you hit Enter. The "www" and ".com" will be added automatically for you. Ta dah...

(Please, note that this only works with .com's and not .org, .net, .gov, .tv, etc...)

Tip of the Day

Throbbers

So, you’re running Internet Explorer and while waiting for that page to finally load, you’re staring at that little spinning ‘e’ in your browser for the millionth time, thinking how great it would be if only you could change it…

Happy day! Because not only can you change it, it’s really pretty easy to do!

The animated picture is called a ‘throbber,’ and you can change it just by adding a key in your Windows registry pointing to whatever animation you’d like to use.

There is a handy freeware tool that automates and manages most of the process. So, the first thing you need to do is download it at Red Planet Software:

http://www.geocities.com/RedPlanetSoft/index.html?throbit/throbit.html

Download Throbit14.zip by clicking on the word Download on the right side of the screen or from the menu on the left and select Save.

Once it’s saved, unzip the program into its own directory and run it from there. (Full instructions on how to unzip and install the program are available through the download website, but basically, you just find the .zip file you just saved, right click on it and select Extract All. Then, select the destination folder in which to place the actual program.)

The opening screen is a blank panel, so you need to go to the File menu and choose Open. The program comes with three sample throbbers; however, you can download a total of nine in the Throb It website gallery. Select the one you would like to use and click Open. ‘IE-cube-30’ is the one used for this example.

The program will tell you about the animation you’ve just loaded. Check the format. If it says Internet Explorer, you’re good to go. Go to the File menu and select Install.

You have three choices: Normal, Small, and Background. Background is for installing a skin over the toolbar, so you’ll need to choose either Normal or Small. The distinction between these is preserved only for backwards compatibility with browsers older than 5.0, so select Small if you’re using IE 5.0 or higher.

Now close all of your browser and Explorer windows and re-start Internet Explorer. The new throbber doesn’t show up until you’ve closed all the windows. On some machines, you may even need to restart the computer for it to kick in.

Enjoy the cool spinningness of it all!

P.S. To see how you’d go about making your very own throbber, open up one of the throbber (.bmp) files in MS Paint or any other image program and revise them there. You can also find other throbbers on the web. Just be advised that if they are Netscape formatted or designed for a Mac, you’ll need to reformat them in the Throb It program you just installed (under the Edit menu, Convert command).

Keep your arms in, and have a fun ride!

Amanda's Cool Site of the Day

Scream and Fly Magazine

Ah, finally it’s the dog days of summer, and what’s better to do in summer than go boating? Well this site is devoted to performance boating. So if you want to look into buying a boat, you can probably find the comparison information you need here. I was surfing through this site and was impressed by all the different types of boats listed.

For more serious boaters, you can check out their forum and chat with others who share those boating proclivities. Be sure to read the Evaluations in the Boat vs. Boat Style, as well as the Multimedia section.
