A Mac newsletter soon? Who knows?

Free Download

Be sure to check out this week's free download. This one is called the Startup Monitor and it lets you know when an install program tries to add an item to your system tray. Very handy, and it's free. Check it out at our homepage:

Get This And Really Have All The Answers!

Thanks to the hundreds (and hundreds) who ordered the Britannica Ready Reference Encyclopedia yesterday.

In fact, we noticed that lots of people mentioned in their comments that this was a little "going back to school" gift for their favorite students (lots of multiple orders).

If you missed out, you still have a chance at this. Again, this includes over 25,000 articles, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, maps, over 1500 photos, and even videos. It even has a "best of the web" section that helps you do research on the web! These sites (150,000 of 'em) were hand picked by the Encyclopedia Britannica editors, so yes, they are very good. Oh, and don't forget - it has an awesome Research Organizer that makes keeping track of what you find super-easy.

Don't miss out, here's the link:

Back By Popular Demand...

OK, we recently had two titles in the newsletter that sold out before everyone had a chance to order. Well, we have VERY limited quantities of both back in stock (and it took some doing, let me tell ya). Here they are:

# 1 - Checkit Suite -

This awesome utility suite can find hardware problems quickly, speed up your internet connection (102% in our case - your mileage may vary), run benchmarks, test multi-tasking ability, speed up system performance, help protect against crashes, find problems when you can't get Windows to run, automatic synchronization between computers, remove unused leftover files, compress files, and TONS MORE!

The price? The retail on this is $69.95, it's yours for only $24.97 and yes, US shipping is FREE! Here's the link:

# 2 - Dragon Naturally Speaking 5 -

This is voice recognition software. You talk into the headset and it types the words you're speaking onto the page (up to 160 words a minute). It works with most word processors (MS Word, WordPerfect, others) and includes its own built-in word processor. And yes, you can use it with most e-mail software. If it takes you forever to type an e-mail or letter, you can imagine how handy this software could be!

Retail on this is $199.95, we have the CD only version for just $39.97! (All instructions are on the CD and setup is done in an automatic, wizard sort of way.) Here's the link:

Computers 101

Q:
Is there a way to empty my deleted e-mails from the Deleted Items bin all at once or do I have to do it just one at a time?

A:
Sounds like you're using Outlook or Outlook Express. If that's the case, just right-click the Deleted Items bin and select Empty Deleted Items Folder. That'll do it. Most e-mail clients work in a very similar fashion - if they use a recycle bin type folder like Outlook Express does.

However - if your e-mail program doesn't have that handy little right-click-and-empty feature, there may still be hope. Go into the Deleted Items folder (or the equivalent for your software) and hit CTRL-A. That should select everything in that folder. From there, just hit Delete.

What if you want to keep your deleted stuff that's less than, say, one week old? Well, you can do that too. Click the oldest message and scroll down to the last one you want to remove. Next, hit your Shift key and click the message. Everything between the first e-mail you clicked and the last should be highlighted. A quick little tap of the Delete button and it's all over.

Finally, if you haven't emptied that deleted item folder for a while, remember that it can get HUGE and take up a ton of hard drive space. So, empty regularly and be careful not to delete important stuff - like this newsletter :-)

Tip of the Day

Skip The Recycle Bin

Every now and then you need to really delete a file. Right now.

Well, most people delete the thing, then go to the recycle bin and remove it from there. It works, but there's a better way.

Next time your 100% sure, without a doubt, for certain, that you want to delete a file, hold your Shift key down while you delete. The file will be deleted - skipping the Recycle Bin completely.

Here I am, right-clicking and deleting a file that was just begging for it. You can't tell, but I'm holding down my Shift key so it bypasses my recycle bin and is tossed into the digital abyss...

Who knew you could wield such power with such a simple key?
