Finally!

Well, well, well... With all of the server and web-site changes going on, we finally got around to changing the Software Deals on the side-bar of this newsletter! Check it out for some neat-o products!

Did You Get Yours?

We still have some of the Gizmos Mega Pak left (not a ton though). As I mentioned the other day, this is probably one of the best software packages I've ever seen and I wish there was a better way for me to emphasize what a terrific, and useful, software package this is. After only a week, I would be lost without it! And I'm not the only one who thinks so:

"One of the coolest accessory packages anyone has ever seen...Outstanding and fun."
- John Dvorak, PC Magazine

"A clever, stylish and utterly useful collection of utilities...one of the best deals we've ever seen."
- ZDTV

At only $14.97 (Free US Shipping), it's one of the best deals we've ever offered (retail is $49.95). If you pass on this one, you'll really be missing out.

To re-cap, this software includes 25 programs that really enhance your computer. Here's a quick rundown of some of them:

- File Protection - Keep your confidential files safe.
- Photo Organization - This is the BEST photo browser I've ever used
- Calendars - Keep track of important dates and appointments easily
- Card Games - Solitaire, Free Cell, Forty Thieves, Nerts, more
- Puzzles - An excellent, and kind of unusual, puzzle game.
- Clocks - Fun ways to tell time. Synchronize with an atomic clock
- CD Player - Wait till you see this CD Player! Awesome!
- Calculators - Regular, scientific, business, more!
- Screen Saver - Several cool 3D screen savers - even use your pictures!
- Presentation software - Quickly make high quality presentations.

And that's only a small sample of what this software suite includes! Here's a link with more info:

PS -
Please don't skip this. Remember, if you don't think it's as great as I say it is, you can return it for a prompt, courteous refund. You have nothing to lose and an excellent program to gain.

Computers 101

(NOTE - The tip below is mainly for Win ME & XP. Also note that depending on your mouse / mouse driver, this tip may or may not work for you).

Q:
My mouse pointer gets in my way when I'm typing. I then have to stop typing and move the mouse in order to get it out of my way. Is there an easier solution?

A:
You bet...

Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, then double-click on Mouse. (XP Users: Start / Control Panel / Printers & Other Hardware / Mouse.)

On the Mouse Properties window, click on the Pointer Options tab and you will see where it says Hide Pointer While Typing (again, note that not all systems have this feature). Click a checkmark in the box. Click Apply, then OK and your on the way to less distracting typing!

Tip of the Day

More Double Clicking Ease

Last Tuesday (July 30, 2002), we ran a 101 tip that detailed how to use Single-Click + Enter in exchange for a double-click. Well, wouldn't you know there's another way. Thanks to reader Patti Brown who sent us this idea...

So, are you tired of double clicking? Frustrated with not being able to double-click fast enough? Wish you could cut out that second click? Well, you’re in luck, There is a way!

Our first stop is the Control Panel, which is where you control almost everything about your computer. Go to Start / Settings / Control Panel.

With your Control Panel open, look for the Folder Options icon and double-click on it (this will be the last time you have to double click). The Folder Options box will open. Now, look at the last section on the bottom called ‘Click Items as Follows.’

Here you have two options; ‘single click to open an item’ or ‘double click to open an item’. Select ‘single click to open an item’ and click Apply, then OK.

Congratulations! You are now an ex-double-clicker. But remember that as double clicking is replaced with single clicking, single clicking is going to be replaced with just setting your mouse pointer over the item. Have fun!
