Hey! Protect Yourself!

Do we have a deal for you!

We have Norton Internet Security 2002 on sale for only $18.97!! (And yes, US shipping is FREE!) This suite includes Norton Anti-Virus, Norton Personal Firewall, Norton Parental Control, and Norton Privacy Control. It retails for $69.95, so to say this is a great deal is something of an understatement! (Note that this is CD only - but includes an "electronic manual". Why spend an extra $51.00 for a thin book and box? That's crazy.)

Here's a quick breakdown of each component:

Norton Anti-Virus - This one is easy - it keeps your computer safe from viruses. It keeps an eye on your system for virus activity, checks e-mail attachments, and more. It even updates itself automatically and checks outgoing e-mail so you don't infect your friends! It's one of the best Anti-Virus programs around and we've sold well over 1000 of them this year!

Norton Personal Firewall - This keeps hackers out of your computer and prevents programs from sending information from your computer without your knowledge. In my opinion, this type of software is actually more important than Anti-Virus software. Why?

You can (usually) outsmart viruses by keeping your software up to date, not opening attachments, being careful about what you download, etc. You should still have AV software (I do), but if you don't you may be able to stay safe by knowing how viruses work and how to avoid them.

However, keeping hackers out is another issue. It's a lot harder to keep your computer from being hacked into since it's somewhat out of your control. The best way to keep your PC hacker free is with the use of a firewall - and this program has, what I feel (PC Mag agrees with me, by the way), is one of the best software firewalls on the market.

Oh, and for those who aren't worried about being hacked into - if an outsider does get access to your computer they can plant viruses, destroy files, steal personal information, render it inoperable, and more. Norton Personal Firewall blocks over 300 access attempts on my computer a DAY. Granted, most of them are automated attacks looking for easy targets, but why take a chance?

I personally know several people who have had hacking problems, and believe me - it makes getting a virus look like fun.

Norton Parental Controls / Privacy Controls - This keeps both your kids safe and your personal information safe. First off, it contains a database of objectionable sites (customizable) to help keep the porn away.

Next, it monitors the sites you give information to so that you (or your kids) don't accidentally send sensitive information to non-secure sites. You can also use Norton Privacy Control to prevent web sites from retrieving your email address without your knowledge, and to control which sites are allowed to track your online activities with cookies.

Whew, that's the highlight show. Our quantities are VERY LIMITED on this item, so if you're interested, act fast. It's probably going to sell out quickly. Here's the link:

PS - Don't miss out - Isn't protecting your PC (you know, the one you spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on), worth a few bucks?

Q:
What's the difference between "Favorites" and "Bookmarks"?

A:
Not much. "Bookmarks" are Netscape's term for what are essentially internet shortcuts. "Favorites" are MS Internet Explorer's term for them.

They both work the same way. When you're on a page you want to get back to, you click the Favorites or Bookmarks menu (depending on the browser) and usually you'll find an option to add the page to your favorites / bookmarks. Click that, add the page, and it appears on your favorites or bookmarks menu.

Tip of the Day

Ever wish you could re-do the display name your e-mail program uses? Well, with some e-mail clients, you can (not AOL, sorry). I'll show you how to do it with Outlook Express and Netscape Messenger.

Here's how to do it with Outlook Express:

1. Click the Tools menu, Accounts...

2. Click (select) the account name you want to modify, then click the Properties button.

3. On the General Tab, you'll see a "Name" field. Type in your name changes and hit OK.

That's all there is to it for Outlook Express.

Here's how to do it in Netscape Mail (version 6)

With Netscape Mail running, do the following:

1. Click the Edit menu, Mail / News Account Settings.

2. The Account Settings screen should pop up. You should see your e-mail address on the left. Click that.

3. You should see an Identity section. The first field in there is called "Your Name". Change that to what you would like your display name to be and hit OK.

Well, that's it. Most other e-mail clients work in a similar manner.

Not as hard as you thought, huh?

Amanda's Cool Site of the Day

Mini Clip

Oh I know, it pains you to see it, another game site. If you enjoyed Pop Cap’s games, you’ll really love Mini Clip. For some Friday fun why don’t you try Acno’s Enegizer – that’s the game I’m currently addicted to. For those of you at work, if you need some stress relief try Paintball.

The other favorites you can enjoy are Flashman, Park a Lot II, Grid Iron, or Blobs. Mini Clip is definitely a really cool, really free game site, enjoy, and let the games begin.
