What's That Version?

Ahh, it was sure Monday yesterday. We did a follow up on our Norton Internet Security 2002 yesterday and we called it the 2001 version. Sorry about that, it really is the 2002 version and it really is only $18.97. Here's the link:

Q:
Help, I can't figure out how to insert a Registered Trademark symbol into my document.

A:
Here is a list of the most often used special characters on your keyboard. To make a special character, hold down the Alt key and type in the number from the numeric keypad. (Note: Word will allow you to edit the Shortcut Keystroke via the Insert menu, Symbol option, Shortcut Key button so this is not so cumbersome.)

However, these "shortcuts" will work with most word processing program (Word, Works, NotePad, Word Perfect, etc.)...

Cent ¢ --- Alt 0162
Trademark ™ --- Alt 0153
Copyright © --- Alt 0169
Registered trademark ® --- Alt 0174
One-fourth ¼ --- Alt 0188
One-half ½ --- Alt 0189
Three-fourths ¾ --- Alt 0190

For additional special characters, check out your own Character Map. Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Character Map. Then click on the character you would like to copy and either Select and Copy or note the keystroke in the bottom right hand corner of the window.

Tip of the Day

Arrow Tricks

Here's a cool little arrow trick. Next time you're using your arrow keys to go from one area of a sentence to another (left and right arrows), hold down your CTRL key. Instead of moving one space at a time, you'll go one word at a time.

If you're using the up and down arrows to go from line to line, holding down the CTRL key will make your cursor jump from paragraph to paragraph (well, from carriage return to carriage return anyway).

One last thing, if you hold down the SHIFT key while you do this (i.e. hold down SHIFT + CTRL at the same time), you select text as you arrow along.

I've tested this in MS Word and Wordpad, but it *should* work no matter what word processing program you use.

Amanda's Cool Site of the Day

Welcome to America

Welcome to America has most of the welcome signs in each state, information on that state, and much more.

It also comes with easy viewing options, you can either use the side bar to travel through the site state by state or you can use the navigation at the top to travel through different sections. I found the side bar was easier because you seem to get all the information at once.

So go ahead and check out these fabulous signs, I think my personal favorite was Hawaii because it‚s huge sign saying Aloha. Enjoy!
