Q: I have so many "Favorites" that I can't quickly go to the ones I use most often. Is there a faster way to revisit a web page using Internet Explorer? A: Yes, IE provides the ultimate in shortcut solutions called "Links."
If you don't see the Links bar as shown above, right-click any empty area within the menu or navigation bars and click Links so it is checked. Go to the web page you want to shortcut. Drag the IE icon in the address field to the Links bar. The screen will then refresh showing your new shortcut with its default title. Now, anytime you want to visit that page from a different page, just click that link. Note, unlike Favorites, this page will open in the same and not a new window. Now, assuming that you want to see as many links as possible without first clicking >>, right click on your new entry and select Rename or Properties/General tab. Type the shortest acronym or abbreviations that you will remember. The screen will refresh again displaying your new title.
Duplicate until you have a link to as many pages as you want. Then, you can reorder them by simply dragging them within the Links bar and releasing when the big I (vertical beam) appears in the desired location. You can even drag links from beyond the >> to the viewable Links area; however, this will usually force the right-most link to fall beyond the >>. To increase the Links bar length, right click on "Links" and make sure "Lock the Toolbars" is not checked and then drag "Links" to its own full line beneath the menu and/or navigation bar. If you need even more space and don’t mind an extra click, you can save links within a folder as shown using Windows Explorer. I find this preferable to clicking >> to see all my links because I can find any link more quickly. You can also use grouping instead of putting your links on an extra line, which will reduce vertical scrolling. Tip: You can assign a hotkey to any link using the Properties box as we've previously covered. The hotkey will open the link in a new window. You can also change the default icon, if you like, from the Properties box. --Dave Hearron Have
a question for the newsletter? Submit it at the link below: A Quick Way to the C: OK, I know there are several ways to view the contents of your hard drive (normally drive "C" ), but here's one I stumbled upon the other day that I thought was kinda cool. 1. First hit your Windows Key and the letter "R." (The windows key is located between the ALT & CTRL keys - if you don't have a "windows" keyboard, you won't have this key and you'll need to hit the Start button, Run to try this.) 2. You should now have the "Run" dialog box sitting in front of you. Now, type in a back slash (/):
3. Hit Enter and you should get a window with a list of all the stuff on your C: drive.
Again, there are other ways of getting to your C: drive quickly (like sticking a shortcut on your desktop by dragging the C: drive to it), but this was a new one to me so I thought I would pass it along. --Steve Have
