Cookin' With Betty!

Who makes one of the best CD ROM cookbooks?

Betty Crocker, of course!

Now, before you go thinking this is only a brownie and cake cookbook, think again. This not only has some awesome desserts, but also has a host of incredibly great tasting healthy meals. (Psst - here's more info)

This program is from MasterCook and uses their cookbook "engine" (which is about the best on the planet). Plus it features not just one, but NINE different Betty Crocker cookbooks! (over 6500 recipies!!) Here's the list: Great Grilling, Best of Healthy and Hearty Cooking, Best Christmas Cookbook, Best of Baking, Good and Easy Cookbook, Cookie Book (my favorite :-), Cooking Basics, Best Loved Recipes, and Healthy New Choices.

My favorite part? The nutritional calculator. I've been trying to lose some weight and this program makes it simple. Just click the Nutritional Analysis button and you'll get a screen full of info. I found out that Betty's Best Chocolate Cake with Fudge Frosting was 450 calories per serving. However, it does give you 9% of your daily requirement of the B1 :-) Of course, most of the recipes aren't this high in calories and fat, but it's still really great to check things out before you cook 'em!

Searching this thing is also fantastic. For example, if you want a recipe that has tomatoes but not mayonnaise, you can do it! Great for those who are on a strict diet or who are sensitive to certain foods.

It also lets you put your favorite recipes into a "favorites" section, has an awesome glossary of cooking terms, includes fantastic "how to" type videos, has an incredible meal planner, can print out shopping lists, and can even scale recipes so you make exactly the amount you need.

What about your recipes? This program lets you add 'em! Is that cool or what? It makes keeping organized almost too easy.

I could go on and on, in fact, I've barely scratched the surface of what this program can do. The price? Well, we had a special buy on this one and we're able to put it on sale for only $19.97! (retail is $39.95) And yes, US Shipping is FREE! . Again, this is a fantastic cookbook and I can't recommend it highly enough! Hmm. It would also be a great gift idea! Here's the link - Quick! PS - Please! Don't miss out! This cookbook really is fantastic and is a must have. Oh, and remember - we have our 30 day satisfaction guarantee - if you don't think it's a great as I say it is just send it back for a fast, courteous refund! You have nothing to lose - except maybe a few pounds :-)

Q:
What are DLL files?

A:
DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files are basically "support" files for certain types of software. They are generally (but not always) found in your Windows System directory.

They work like this: Let's say a program needs to perform an operation. Rather than all the coding being built into the program, it uses a particular DLL file that, with a simple call, can perform the operation for it. Saves lots of programming time, especially since many of the common DLL files are already installed with Windows.

I've also had lots of people ask about deleting these files. Well, the best advice is not to, since many of your DLL files are used by more than one program. Going through and deleting the ones you *think* aren't being used anymore is a lot like getting under the hood of your car and yanking wires that don't look important.

If you're really concerned about stray DLL files, make sure you run uninstall programs. Most programs include an uninstall program that will (should) take out all the extra DLL's.

Most of the time if you hit the Start button, Programs, then go to the program's listing, you can find an uninstall program. You can also click the Start button, Settings, Control Panel, and open the Add/ Remove programs icon. A screen will pop-up that can uninstall the software for you (again, it's not foolproof, but it's better than playing guessing games with your DLL's).

Tip of the Day

Customizing Send To - Part 2 of 2

Yesterday we looked at adding/removing stuff from the Send To menu. Today, we'll look at adding folders to it.

(Quick reminder - you get the Send To option when you right-click a file in either Windows Explorer or My Computer.)

Adding a folder shortcut to your Send To menu gives you the ability to send files to that folder quickly and easily. I know it's sounds a little complicated, but you'll see what I mean.

1. Right-click your Start Button, select Explore.

2. Head to the Windows\Send to\ folder (it's probably just above the folder you landed in when Explorer opened).

Special Note for XP users (I know I ran this note yesterday, but I don't want any confusion): If you're using Win XP, you'll need to make sure you have your computer set to Show Hidden Files and Folders. You can do this under Explorer by hitting the Tools menu, Folder Options. Next hit the View tab. You'll see an option for "Show Hidden Files and Folders" there. Select that and hit OK. You'll be able to see the Send To menu under the Documents and Settings/USER NAME folder. (The USER NAME is the name you use for your custom settings on XP.)

3. Use your RIGHT mouse button (yes, the right one) to drag a folder to your Send To folder.

4. You'll get a menu that will give you several options, including one to Create A Shortcut. Select that.

That's it. If you would like to send a file to that folder, just right-click it and select the shortcut you just made from the Send To list.
