It's Back(up)!

Last Friday we featured NTI Backup Now Deluxe and sold out. Well, since then we've had people crying (screaming, begging, etc.) for them and I've been working on getting more. Well, we got the last of 'em!

So, if you missed out, don't wait! This is the last chance at these and you know how fast we've been selling out of stuff lately! Frankly, I don't think we're going to have enough.

Backing up is a headache - but we have the aspirin! Backup Now Deluxe has got to be the easiest backup software ever! It backs up in just 3 easy steps (click here for screen shots)!

Step 1 - Pick your files. Either backup specific files / folders or backup your entire hard drive. Whatever you like, it's all done with simple little checkboxes!

Step 2 - Pick the destination you want to backup to (i.e. your CD-R / RW drive) and give the backup job a name.

Step 3 - Decide if you want to back up every file or just the files that have changed since your last backup.

That's it! Complete those steps, and the program will backup your files to your CD-R / RW drive! If you need more than one CD, it will prompt you to put additional disks in as needed. Told you it was easy!

Now, if you want to get more involved for some reason, it allows that too. You can tell it to compress or not to compress, to compare backed up files to originals, to overwrite CD-RW media or not, allow you to exclude certain file types, password protect your backup, do scheduled backups, and tons more.

This is simply the best way I've ever found to do backups. It's easy, it's quick, and it's convenient. It's also a PC magazine editor's choice, so you know it's not just me saying it's great.

The price? Well, this retails for $79.95, but your price is only $29.97! And US shipping is FREE! Limited quantities, so head to the site below ASAP!

PS - This is fantastic software, and everyone I've shown it to is asking me to hold them a copy! Be sure to get to the site today to get yours! Think about what would happen if you lost all your data - right now. Would you be able to recover? With this software, it's no problem.

Remember, it's not a question of "if" you're going to need backup, it's a question of "when". Isn't your data worth $29.97??

Q:
I'm tired of typing "Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Jim" at the end of all of my e-mail messages. Is there a way to set this up automatically?

A:
Yes, and it's called a signature. A signature file (or, for those in the know, a "sig file") is usually just a little piece of text that automatically gets put at the end of an e-mail.

For example, when I send out an e-mail, the following is automatically plopped in at the end:

Have a great day,

Steve

That way, I don't waste countless hours of my life typing the same thing over and over. How does one do this little piece of digital magic? It's easy. So easy that you're gonna wish you'd been doing it all along.

Here's an example for Outlook Express, since that's the e-mail client most of you are using. Note the procedure is pretty much the same for most other e-mail programs.

1. Hit the Tools menu, Options.

2. Click the Signatures tab on the resulting screen.

3. Under the Signatures area, click the New button.

4. Next, type your good-bye message in the Edit Signature area. If you want to get fancy, you can use a file, even HTML. For now, probably best to stick with plain text. We don't wanna go crazy here :-)

5. OK, now if you want this to automatically be added to your outgoing messages, go back to the top of this little screen and check the "Add signatures to all outgoing messages" box. I also uncheck the "Don't add signatures to replies and forwards" so that my sig file is added to those too.

6. Click OK and you're all set. Create a new e-mail message and your new sig file should automatically be added.

Tip of the Day

Blind Carbon Copies in Outlook Express

How many people do you know that do not want their e-mail address forwarded around the world? Have you ever received an e-mail that was 25K and 23K was e-mail addresses from multiple forwards?

Here is how to send e-mails to multiple recipients without giving everyone everybody else’s address:

In Outlook Express, click the Create Mail button. Once the new message window opens, click Tools, then Select Recipients.

In the Select Recipients window, select what address book you're going to be using (mine are all under Shared Contacts). Then click on the name you want to include and click the "Bcc:->" button. Repeat this with as many names as you want to include and then click OK.

Make sure to enter your name in the "To:->" field and now all of your recipients will only see your address and not everyone that you sent the e-mail to.

Cool, huh?
