Announcements

All of us at WorldStart are deeply saddened by the loss of the space shuttle Columbia and her crew.

The astronauts who fly into space take a tremendous risk by doing so. We salute their courage, knowing that although the loss was great, we will continue to press on.

We have the families of the lost astronauts in our prayers and hope that the reasons for this tragedy are soon revealed. All aboard are heroes, and were so as soon as they stepped onto the launch pad.

Computers 101

Q:
OK, this is going to sound a little silly, but what exactly is my "hard drive"? I hear people talking about them, I know I have one, but not sure what it does.

A:
A hard drive is a fast, high capacity internal disk drive found in all modern PCs. Unless the computer is older than say, 12 years, it should have a hard drive in it. Any PC running Windows does.

The reason for having a hard drive is to give you a permanent place to keep your computer's information. They are generally much more reliable than keeping your data on a floppy disk (that's not to say you shouldn't back up your info though), are much faster, and hold tons more.

Windows, your installed software, and files that are "on your computer" all make their home on your hard drive.

When you open the "My Computer" icon, it will show you all of your hard drives. You'll at least have a drive "C:", and may have another one for system restore purposes.

Tip of the Day

Unblocking and Blocking Senders

For those who don't know, you can block senders with most e-mail software. When you "block" someone, all of the e-mail they send to you gets deleted as it comes in. In Outlook Express, just hit the Messages menu and select Block Sender to block the currently selected e-mail. Don't try this now though or you'll accidentally block me!

OK, so how do you unblock someone you've accidentally blocked?

In Outlook Express, go to the Tools menu, Message Rules, Blocked Senders.

Just highlight the person you want to unblock and hit the "remove" button.

PS - Most other e-mail software will allow you to block people either using a similar method or by using "filters." You can set these filters to automatically send messages to the recycle bin if you like.
