Can You Help Us? Please?

We are conducting a reader survey and need your help. This survey will help determine the future of this newsletter and we really want your input.

The survey will ask how you like this newsletter, what species of Windows you use (very important), types of software you like, how you rate our site (which we're currently upgrading), if you shop at our store, etc.

In order to make this the best newsletter possible (and to help keep it coming :-), we really (really) need your input on this one.

The survey is completely anonymous and free of charge.  Please, if you enjoy this newsletter take a minute or two and complete the survey. All of us here at WorldStart would greatly appreciate it. Here's the link:

Stop Pop Ups - And More

Yesterday's software bundle featuring the iClean pop up stopper was really incredible. It broke all records and was our biggest day ever. Thanks to all who ordered :-)

After making numerous calls, I was able to scrounge up a few more of these. So, if you missed out yesterday, I do have some more available.

Again, this software bundle includes a pop up stopper (called iClean), Stuff-it (for zip files), Open Office (a super little office suite) and a ton of games.

All the programs are good, but I really like the pop up stopper. We've been using it here and it works great. It not only stops those annoying pop up windows, but also protects your privacy by allowing you to "cover your tracks" when you surf.

This whole thing is only $12.97 and US shipping is free. It's a fantastic deal (The pop up stopper alone goes for $29.95) and we will probably run out soon. Here's the link for more info:

Don't miss out - this is a program everyone needs!

Computers 101

Q:
When I get e-mail with pictures and I forward them, there are no pictures—only a little "X" in a box. How can I forward this type of e-mail?

A:
When there is a picture in the body of the email itself, the graphic file might be located on a server (like our newsletter) or attached to the email.

If your computer is not online while reading the mail (or your computer thinks it is not online) the pictures will not load from their location in cyberspace. Sometimes this happens if the server receives a lot of traffic or if it is down. Try logging off the net, rebooting, reconnecting, or waiting for the server to come back online.

If the picture is an email attachment and you try to forward using Outlook Express, make sure that the picture is attached and that you have the "Send Pictures with Message" option selected.

To make sure that the picture is attached after you click Forward look in the "Attach" box for your file name. If is is an embedded image, it should appear in the message window.

Here's how you turn on the "Send Pictures with Message" option in OE:

On the Tools menu, click Options. Go to the Send tab and click HTML under "Mail Sending Format".

If you want to send pictures as attachments with every message, click Settings then check the box marked "Send Pictures With Messages", then OK.

If you follow these steps and your recipients still do not get your attachments, they may be considered "unsafe attachments" by OE (see yesterday's tip) or their ISP has filtered it out.

Tip of the Day

EZ E-mail Attachments

Do you wish there was an easier way to place attachments in your e-mail messages? I mean, every time you go to put an attachment in, you have to wade through a slew of menus and files just to get the thing attached.

Well, with both MS Outlook Express & Netscape Mail, there is an easier way. (You knew it, didn't you?)

With MS Outlook & Netscape Mail, you can drag & drop files from Windows Explorer to the message you want them attached to. Here's how:

First, open Windows Explorer or My Computer and navigate to the file you want to send (note that you won't want the window maximized). Next open your e-mail program and start a new message.

Then:

Outlook / Outlook Express:

This one is easy. Just drag the file to the body of the message and let go. You're all attached.

Netscape:

This one isn't too bad either. Drag the file to the address area of the e-mail (not the body). Let go and it's all attached for you For Netscape 6, you need to drag & drop to the Attachment area on the new message screen.

If you're using a different e-mail program, it *may* support this as well. You'll have to experiment to find out.

Final Trick -

If you would rather not do the drag and drop thing, you could always right-click the file you want to send and select Send To, E-mail recipient. Of course, this works better if you haven't already started the e-mail.
