Feel The POWER!

WOW - We landed an incredible deal this time!! We have a fantastic price on an awesome high-end 175 watt power inverter!

What the heck is a "power inverter" you ask?

Basically, a power inverter is a device that plugs into your car's cigarette lighter and converts the 12V DC current into 110/120V AC. In short, it provides a household style electrical plug you can use to power all kinds of devices. Everyone I've talked to has come up with several uses for it (then promptly bought one :-)

Think about the possibilities - you could use this to power laptops, printers (great for salesmen printing proposals), fax machines, radios, 100W halogen lamps, portable DVD players, a small TV, and just about any other low wattage device you'd normally plug into a wall outlet. Heck, it would even be handy for recharging batteries!

I've already been using one with my laptop and absolutely love it (yes, I took out my computer's battery for an accurate test :-). In fact, I like it so much I'm going to keep the "test" unit in my truck from now on. There have been a lot of times in the past this would have come in really (and I mean really) handy.

If you travel with your laptop like I do, this is a must have - you never need to worry about your computer's battery running out of power! Great for those of us who take along a laptop so we can download our digital pictures when we're away from civilization! As far as that goes, it would be great if you're the passenger on a long drive and just wanted to get some work done.

Your price on this is incredible - just $29.97 and US shipping is FREE! Power inverters are normally on the expensive side - most go for $50-$70, so this is an outstanding buy. However, quantities are very limited and these are going to be sold on a first come, first served basis. If you want one, better get to the site ASAP:

PS - Don't miss this - you never know when a device like this will come in handy. Don't end up wishing you had one down the road - grab yours today!

Computers 101

Q:
What is BIOS?

A:
BIOS (basic input / output system) is basically the "software" the computer uses for it's most basic operations (accessing memory, disks, processors, etc.). This "software" is built into the computer's motherboard, so don't worry about losing it if your hard drive crashes.

Note that these are NOT Windows settings, these are the "core" settings for your computer. You normally can get at them by pressing the DEL key a few seconds after you turn your computer on (this can vary from machine to machine though).

Most BIOS setups allow you to configure hard drive parameters, set the time, type of floppy disk drives, memory timing, and so on. It's probably an area that's best left alone unless you are an experienced computer user. I've seen more than one computer that was rendered useless from tampering with these settings.

Tip of the Day

Color Code Your Email—Outlook Express

If you are using a mail client like Outlook Express then you know that Message Rules are probably the most versatile and helpful feature. We've told you how to use them for blocking unwanted email, whitelisting, automatic forwarding, and sorting into folders. This new trick is great for helping you easily identify the good stuff when wading through a mountain of email.

How would you like to just look at your inbox and be able to recognize email from business contacts, friends, or family just by the color? This really comes in handy for me—since I get over 500 emails a day from readers, I set mine up so that email from my co-workers is in another color. You could set it up so that business contacts are green, family comes in blue, your spouse comes in red, etc. Enough talk, let's get into it...

In Outlook Express, follow the usual procedure for Message Rules: Go to Tools / Message Rules / Mail, then click "New".

Now comes the fun part: for this example, I will select the condition "Where the From line contains people", but you could use any of the options. For the action, select "Highlight with color".

Under "Rule Description", click on "contains people". You can type in addresses or domains then click "Add", or click on the Address Book and select names from there. When finished click OK.

Next we want to choose a color. Click on "color" and a little box will appear. Click the arrow and a palette will appear, from there just choose a color.

Now give the Message Rule a name.

Netscape Mail 7 uses a slightly different approach for this, so tune in tomorrow for details.

There is so much you can do with this trick. You could even make one for "worldstart.com" so you can find our newsletters easier (whether we change the sender display name or not!)
