Follow-up to Last Week's Tips

7/29/03 Last Modified Script: Several readers who tried this tip found that their browser automatically added "http://..." in front of the script. If this happens, just go ahead and add it to your Favorites anyway, then right-click the link and choose "Properties". Under "Web Document" change the URL to the script...

javascript:alert(document.lastModified)

Now, go to any web page and click that link in Favorites and a window should pop up with the date of the last change made to that page.

7/30/03 Site Not Found: Gregory F. brought up a source of errors that we forgot, "...misspelling. A misplaced s or touch typing typo is by far my most common source of 404s."

That's it! Enjoy the newsletter :-)

Q:
Where do I select or set up a screen saver?

A:
If you would like to adorn your computer with a new screen saver (or set one up), just right-click the desktop and select Properties from the little menu that pops up. A screen will appear with a bunch of tabs on it. Select the Screen Saver tab.

From there, you can select and set up your screen saver.

Tip of the Day

Windows ME & XP Slide Show Screen Saver

One of my favorite screen savers is the "My Pictures Slideshow." Once selected, you should click the Settings button to configure it.

You can adjust where it obtains the photos (default is your My Documents/My Pictures folder), how often it changes the pictures, and how big the pictures should be.

Amanda's Cool Site of the Day

Soda Machines

This site contains over 400 different types of classic soda machines. You can browse through them by choosing manufacturers. Then choose the small five cent image and you can see the pictures of soda machines.

Different manufacturers made very different vending machines. It was really neat to go through and see all the different types from when they were first originated to more modern ones like we see every day. The vintage ones I think are by far the neatest. It was also neat to take a tour back in history because this gives you a good idea of how things were kept cool based on the era.

Check it out!
