Follow-Up to Last Week's Tips

8/11/03 UCE Jibberish: The random symbols mentioned were in reference to email with a graphic and random text. Sometimes, an HTML email will arrive as text so that you end up with a bunch of code.

As for Theory #4 (secret codes), I heard from several readers who did not like the Masons being on the list. The inclusion was actually to poke fun at wacky conspiracy theorists who blame Masons, the UN, et. al. for everything that happens in the world. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I did not, however, get any calls from the CIA, but I have noticed black helicopters flying over Worldstart H.Q.

8/15/03 Cool Site: The "Arresting Images" site would not come up. After doing a DNS lookup, I discovered that the server for the site is on Third Avenue in New York City. Due to the big power black out the site could not come up. Try again now that the lights are on...

PC Video Camera - Another Great Response!

The first time we featured the Argus PC Video Camera / Web Cam it was a fantastic seller - our subscribers know a good deal when they see it :-). Well, the same holds true again! Wow, a big "Thank You" to everyone who ordered.

This little PC Cam lets you create regular videos using your computer, do video e-mail (really fun and our favorite use for this), video conferencing, do video monitoring, use it as a web cam, and it even works with instant messengers! Need a still photo? It can do that too!

This color camera features a built in microphone, 30 frames per second video, adjustable focus, and connects to your computer with a USB cable (included). Setup is easy too - Just run the software, point the camera at your subject, and press record!

You not only get the camera, but also cool video and photo software too! You can edit, splice, add text, add transitions, and more! It's great!

Why pay $50-$100 for a web cam? We can sell these to you for just $29.97ea with FREE US shipping! Check it out:

Computers 101

Q:
When I get e-mail with pictures and I forward them, there are no pictures—only a little "X" in a box. How can I forward this type of e-mail?

A:
When there is a picture in the body of the email itself, the graphic file might be located on a server (like our newsletter) or attached to the email.

If your computer is not online while reading the mail (or your computer thinks it is not online) the pictures will not load from their location in cyberspace. Sometimes this happens if the server receives a lot of traffic or if it is down. Try logging off the net, rebooting, reconnecting, or waiting for the server to come back online.

If the picture is an email attachment and you try to forward using Outlook Express, make sure that the picture is attached and that you have the "Send Pictures with Message" option selected.

To make sure that the picture is attached after you click Forward look in the "Attach" box for your file name. If is is an embedded image, it should appear in the message window.

Here's how you turn on the "Send Pictures with Message" option in OE:

On the Tools menu, click Options. Go to the Send tab and click HTML under "Mail Sending Format".

If you want to send pictures as attachments with every message, click Settings then check the box marked "Send Pictures With Messages", then OK.

If you follow these steps and your recipients still do not get your attachments, they may be considered "unsafe attachments" by OE (see yesterday's tip) or their ISP has filtered it out.

Tip of the Day

E-mail forwarding

Are you one of the many people who forward our Computer Tips newsletter to friends and family? Do you receive email from a particular sender at work that you always forward to your personal account? If you are an Outlook/Outlook Express user you can have this done automatically! Here's how:

Go to Tools / Message Rules then Mail. Choose New.

Select "Where the From line contains people" and "forward it to people". Click OK.

Click on the underlined "contains people" link to enter email addresses that you would like to forward messages from. Click Add.

You can choose as many senders as you want here, and even choose from your address book.

Next click the underlined "people" link and enter the email addresses that you want to forward messages to.

Here again you can choose from your address book.

Click OK and your rule is saved. Click on the rule title box to give the rule a name.

You will notice that the rule description appears in the lower part of the box. You can modify the link in the future if you need to and even add recipients.

That's it. Now, whenever you receive mail from a particular sender it will automatically forward, saving you some time.

NOTE: If you are forwarding our newsletter, make sure your friends aren't already subscribed, we wouldn't want to receive a flood of people asking why they keep receiving two!
