Q:
I can hear instrumental music on websites, but on other sites that have sounds I don't hear anything. Is there some way to fix this?

A:
Most instrumental music on web pages are MIDI files while other sounds like "You've got mail!" are usually WAV files. Rather than representing musical sound directly, MIDI files transmit information about how a song should sound that is then processed by your sound card. WAV files represent musical sound directly.

Both types have their own volume control in your computer.

Go down to your system tray (RH corner next to clock) and double click your speaker icon. A volume control interface will come up.

Make sure that you have your Wave, MIDI (on my computer it says "SW Synth", yours may be different), and CD audio all turned up and that "Mute" is unchecked.

This should allow you to hear all the sounds of the web (for better or worse :-)

Tip of the Day

HELP!

Did you know that just about every program out there has a help menu?

Did you also know that the ones that don't usually have online support or message boards for users?

You would be amazed at how much you can find out with a simple click. Try it. Find "Help" up there in your toolbar and click (or you can just hit F1 on your keyboard).

Ever want to find out what version of a program you have? That's there too. Just choose "About..." to get all the info you need. Sometimes it will give you the developer's website where you can go for additional help and software updates.

If you're having problems with technical issues, sometimes you'll see a "Read Me" menu item that can help with known issues.

Run across a program bug? Check the Help menu again - it may have a "Report Bugs" or "Feedback" option.

And you thought the help file was just for program instructions :-).

Amanda's Cool Site of the Day

Irish Literature, Mythology, Folk Lore, and Drama

I fell in love with this site. It is a great site for those of us who always wished we were Irish to those who grew up being Irish. Here you can find the history of Ireland, learn about Gaelic (the Irish language), read through Periodicals, not to mention check out literature, mythology and folklore.

That's a lot of information jam packed into one site. I challenge you to explore through this site that is so rich with history and charm. Read about all this rich mythology and folklore, you'll be entertained and intrigued for hours.
