Star Trek in Sound and Vision

Now for something really fun! This is a site for all you Trekkies. This site claims to be “the DEFINITIVE source on the net for Star Trek WAV sounds, desktop wallpaper pictures, icons, screen savers” and much more.

Now the really nice thing about this site, outside of all the really cool stuff, is that you can choose the heavy graphics version or a text catalog for faster loading. Not many graphic sites will give you this option.

So check it out, and of course, enjoy it!

Art Bell Official Website

For all of you who love conspiracies, UFO’s, Area 51, aliens, ghosts, etc, this is the site for you. You can view pictures in the gallery, read the news section for the latest tidbits, or share your own weird experience.

Flipping through the ghost gallery, I looked through at least ten pages of pictures some with long explanations. Now some of them could be pictures of ghosts, but others where truly just manipulations.

This site is for entertainment purposes and only you can decide what you believe is real or not.

Armies of the World

Want to learn more about the armies of the world? Well this is the place to do it. Choose the country's flag that you would like to learn about to begin your journey. After choosing a flag, you are whisked away to that country's army homepage.

I choose Australia for my first journey and was whisked away to their homepage. Once there, you can read about the current news, look at their job postings (if you lived in Australia this would be helpful stuff), find out about traditions, and see photographs.

This is a really great learning tool, especially for those of you who have kids in school. Check it out!

American Sign Museum

This sight is fascinating. The museum has signs of all shapes and sizes from all over America. According to their web page the goal of this site is to “preserve, archive and display a historical collection of signs in their many types and forms.”

Here, you can check out a sample of what’s at the museum by visiting the Permanent Collection. Choose an era and browse through the different signs. My particular favorite was in the Pre-neon Electric Signs. All around pretty neat site, and if you’re in Cincinnati, Ohio, you could even stop by. Enjoy!

Scream and Fly Magazine

Ah, finally it’s the dog days of summer, and what’s better to do in summer than go boating? Well this site is devoted to performance boating. So if you want to look into buying a boat, you can probably find the comparison information you need here. I was surfing through this site and was impressed by all the different types of boats listed.

For more serious boaters, you can check out their forum and chat with others who share those boating proclivities. Be sure to read the Evaluations in the Boat vs. Boat Style, as well as the Multimedia section.

Wheel Chair Junkie

"Mobility with Attitude" is the catch phrase for this unique site. I think my favorite part of the site is the “Zuck-Aidez Wheelchair Design Meeting.” It discusses wheelchairs without wheels. However, there are a lot of articles on this site that area interesting. Check out the Article Index for more.

In the Idiot Zone, you will find Wheelchair Stunts. After you agree to the disclaimer, you may forge ahead into the Idiot Zone, and take a gander at pictures of these stunts. I found them to be quite interesting. Have fun, sit back, relax, click, and enjoy!

Learn To Type

This site has a free typing test that gives you a different exercise every time. It calculates how long it takes you to type, your words per minute (wpm), and the number of mistakes you made during the exercise.

Then when you are done with the typing test you can register for free and take their typing lessons and work through the exercises to improve your typing skills. The lessons will walk you through like a beginner but you can move ahead as soon as you want and even skip areas you don’t have a problem with.

There is even a Learn2Type section for your kids with simpler exercises and easier instructions, go ahead check it out! What’s your wpm?

The Degree Confluence Project

This site’s goal is “to visit each of the latitude and longitude integer degree intersections in the world, and to take pictures at each location.” Why am I bringing it to your attention? Simple. The pictures are so lovely.

You can find beautiful pictures from all over the world – from Antarctica to Zimbabwe. There are pictures from all the seasons in every type of land. A really well done site that’s hauntingly lovely.

Book Crossing

This is a site for those of you who adore books and love to share them. It’s like a book chain... If you read a Book Crossing book, you register it by the code number on it and then sell it, give it away, loose it, and the next person who finds it can register it.

They also ask that you make a journal entry on the book, and then the next person makes a journal entry, and so on and so forth. You can keep track of where your book is too, if you were the first one to register it you get e-mail notices when someone adds a journal entry for that book.

A site with an interesting concept that intrigues, delights, and is definitely worth a look.

The Clock

Well what can I really say about this one, other than it’s really nifty. It’s an HTML code that makes a clock that actually tells the date and time. On top of that it follows the cursor around the screen. Very neat!

So if you have a second, it’s definitely worth a look.

How Far Is It?

Have you ever been curious about the distance between cities or countries? Well now you can figure it out.

A perfect little site for those of you with an abundance of curiosity, and for everyone else this site is just plain neat. You can calculate the distance between cities and countries. For a test run I put Toledo, Ohio in the “From:” slot, and in the “To:” slot I put Tokyo, Japan: the distance is only 6446 miles as the crow flies. Why don’t you try it out?

The Bathroom Diaries

Sounds ominous, doesn’t it? Well, it’s really a very helpful site for the intrepid traveler. One of the lesser worries of traveling for some of us is the condition of the bathroom, for others it’s a huge deal. Well never fear, the solution is here!

At Bathroom Diaries, you can find the cleanest bathroom around. To do so, use the bathroom search on the site and you’ll be surprised. You choose the country, then the state, region, or province, the city and you’re on your way to finding a clean bathroom.

If in your travels you come across an exceptional bathroom, you can add it to their listings.

For those of you waiting for the strange and unusual part of my cool site, check out the Golden Plunger awards. A must for traveling, take a gander...

Truth or Fiction

Truth or Fiction - that is the question…

This is a site where you can find out whether that rumor you got in your e-mail is true, find out if there is merit to a warning, find out if it’s really a virus or a virus hoax, and so much more.

If you start by reading the ‘About Us’ section of this site you can find out about their labeling system, Truth, Fiction, Reported Truth or Reported Fiction, Unproven, Disputed, Truth & Fiction, Previously Truth Now Ended or Now Resolved, which is a tremendous help in understanding which each category means.

So when you run across that next burning question like, “ Is this really a virus?” You can find that out here, or if you receive that ever-popular plea, “Help me find my missing child.” You can find out if that child is truly missing or if it is a money ploy. Check it out.

American Family Immigration History Center

Explore your family history today by searching immigration records. There are several different areas of this site that can be interesting. For some of these sections, you will need to take a moment and register, but don’t worry, it’s free. Explore this site by using their Passenger Search, Family Scrapbooks, View Your Ellis Island File, and the Actual Immigrant Experience.

The Immigrant Experience was my favorite section, there are two options here: Family History or The Peopling of America. You then choose a time period, and your adventure begins. Enjoy!

Tip of the Iceberg

Have you ever been curious about icebergs? Well I found a page that will help you learn the answers to those burning questions. You can choose a news section where you can learn about the iceberg discovered in 1999 and the tracking method they have that prevents disasters like say, Titanic.

Plus the picture on this site is really cool. It shows the iceberg above water and below, so as you know it’s time to check it out!
