I’m here today to discuss the dot that nearly drove me insane. For months I was unable to send e-mail from my smartphone, even though I could receive it. I knew something had to be wrong with my outgoing settings, but I couldn’t figure out what. Yesterday I discovered the culprit. A dot, a devilish dot that my eyes had refused to see. I would have sworn that my outgoing e-mail address was typed correctly. What I didn’t see on that tiny little phone screen was that I had actually typed myaddress@gmail..com – there was an extra dot in there causing my mail delivery to fail.
Which brings me to the most common reason your password or product key may not work: the dreaded typo. It could be an extra character or space. Maybe a capital letter or an O instead of a zero. Look carefully and try clearing out any password your browser remembers. Our eyes have a way of filling in what they expect to see and tricking us.
In the case of a product key, consider having someone else look at it and type it in. If no one is there, send a photo or a scan of the key to a friend and have them e-mail you what they see and try to copy/paste that into the required field.
