I love baby name sites! It makes my life so much easier when I have to come up with character names for my stories. I have a few reasons that I really adore this site:
Find a Name – I love the Baby Name Finder, it is a very comprehensive way for you to search for a name. You can search by gender, style, popularity, as well as, denote what letter it must start with.
Name Voyager – I think the Name Voyager is interesting. It allows you to graph a name and track the popularity of it over time. If you type in Amanda (or just Ama) you’ll find that my name was the most popular in the 1980’s, which is when I was born and explains why there were seven or eight Amanda’s in each of my classes growing up. It reached its peak at rank 3 in the 1980’s. If you double click a name on the graph you’ll be whisked away to that name’s page where you’ll learn even more about it!
Map a Name – the Namemapper, will show where geographically names are the most popular. Using my name again as an example: you’ll find that in the 1980’s my name was popular in almost every state in the USA, but that it has tapered off significantly since then.
This site is so nifty! Whether you’re naming a new child in your life, new characters in a story, or if you just want to check out your own name and what it means or the statistics surrounding it, you can do it all here at the Baby Name Wizard! Check it out!
