I’ve recently introduced you to BeFunky Photo Editor, a fun and free online program you can use on your PC. I’ve also showed you how you can use its tools to touch up portraits. In this article we’ll look at the filters and effects you can apply to jazz up your images. You’ll find many of these filters and effects on apps for smartphones, but BeFunkly also lets you edit on your PC.
We will start this article assuming that you already have a basic knowledge of BeFunky and how to open a photo.
Now you’re ready to play and add some special effects. Select the icon that looks like a magic wand on the left.
You’ll see a menu with a large selection of filters you can scroll through.
Let’s choose an effect. We’ll go with Orton, which is a dreamy, smoothing effect. You can make adjustments to the amount of the effect using the slider controls.
Let’s look at the same image with another effect called Cyanotype. The starred effects are only available to users who upgrade to the paid version of BeFunky. You’ll notice that as you move through the program. But don’t worry, there are plenty of free effects available.
Here’s what this filter looks like when applied.
The effects range from filters that can intensify a photo, but still look fairly realistic like HDR…
or the Old Photo options that give pictures a vintage look.
There are also highly stylized looks like Line Art.
Or Winter effect, which has a scrapbook page-like quality.
All of the effects are adjusted with slider bar controls and none of the effects are applied to the image until you hit the apply button. So play to your heart’s content.
You can add your favorite filters to the Favorites section to find them instantly.
Select the Paintbrush icon to check out the artistic effects.
Here’s an image with Cartoonerizer applied.
And with the more subtle Underpainting on the same image.
Adjustments to any of the effects can be made by moving the slider bar on the adjustment menu that appears when you apply an effect.
You can only learn by doing, so open up some images and start playing.
