Beginning With FrontPage
So, you finally broke down and bought Microsoft FrontPage (the Web site design program), you have tons of ideas running through your mind for you very own Web site, but you’re just not sure how to get started. FrontPage may just be sitting on your computer waiting for you to use and you’ve just strayed away from it, because you’re afraid you’re not going to be able to figure it out or something to that effect.
Well, don’t worry about that. The best way to do things is to just jump right in anyway, especially with designing a Web site. It’s really not as hard as you might think and you’ve got FrontPage on your side. It is one of the best design programs for beginners. It has easy to understand choices and preferences and it’s pretty easy to figure out how to get what you want from it. You don’t have to be an HTML expert in order to build a professional (or fun) looking Web site.
If you want to build a business, a personal or even a family Web site, this tip will take you step by step in how to get started. So, what do you say? Are you ready to take the plunge? Good, let’s go!
1.) Open FrontPage and go to the File menu. Click on New, Page or Web.
2.) In the new task pane to the far right, under New from Template, click Web Site Templates.
3.) Click on Personal Web and then in the Specify the location of the new Web box, type a path on your hard drive.
4.) The path should be typed in the following format: C:\My Webs\Personal Web site. Click OK. Now, from the Page view, make sure the Folder List is showing and click on Folders.
5.) Next, look for the index.htm file and double click it.
6.) What do you see? The page that comes up is your very own home page. You’re all done with the beginnings of creating a Web site.
That’s pretty cool, huh? Keep checking back in the newsletter for more tips about FrontPage. We’ll eventually go over changing templates, editing and customizing your site and we’ll even go over some photo tips and more.
In the meantime, you can practice with different FrontPage accessories. You never know what you might come across and learn how to do on your own! Have fun!
