How do you block senders using Hotmail?
We have done a tip on this before for Outlook Express, but it’s a good idea for all of you who use different e-mail providers to know how to block a sender as well. You may even someday need to know how to unblock a sender, so I will give you some hints about that as well!
Open up your Hotmail account and sign in and all that good stuff. Go to the top right hand side of the page and click on the Options menu. Now, click on the Mail icon and then choose Junk E-mail Protection. Under that section, you will find the Block Senders link; click on that. You will then be able to type in the e-mail address of the sender you would like to block and then click on Add. The address will then show up under the Block Sender List and you won’t receive e-mail from them again. If you ever want to unblock them, just follow the same steps as above, highlight the address and click on Remove. You can then proceed to exchange e-mail with that person.
Yahoo! users can just go into their main page and click on the Options link at the top. Once in there, look for the Block Addresses link. Type in the e-mail address you want to block and click on the Add Block button. It will tell you that any e-mails that comes from the addresses on the list will be deleted automatically, so you know for sure you won’t have to deal with them again. If you ever want to unblock someone, just highlight the address and click on Remove Block.
The block sender area is a little harder to get to in AOL, but it is certainly doable. First, you have to get into your account where you can read your messages. Once in there, click on the Mail Options tab toward the top of the page. A pull down menu will appear and scroll down to there it says Block Unwanted Mail and click on that link. That will bring up another window titled Mail and Spam Controls. Go down to the bottom under Additional Spam Filters and click on Sender Filter. Yours may already be on, but if it’s off, click on Edit. You will find some different choices there, but click on the blue link that says Use a Custom Sender List. This is where you can type in the e-mail addresses of the people you want to block. Once you type one in, click on the Add button and it will be taken to the lower box. When you’re all done, click on Save at the bottom of the window. If you ever want to unblock an address, highlight it and click on the Remove button.
Here’s a tip on blocking senders in Thunderbird as well.
That should cover all of the other main e-mail providers. Follow these simples steps and you won’t ever have to deal with unwanted e-mail again!
