BrainyQuote: The Right Quote For Every Situation

Posted By Tim On January 9, 2013 @ 12:00 PM In Cool Sites | No Comments

The only thing you have to fear is not having the right quotation for a situation…or something like that…was said by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Providing quotations for a situation can be inspirational, caring, supportive and uplifting. The internet is rife with misquotes and references to people who didn’t say a certain comment, so how do you know what the correct quote is and who said it?

BrainyQuote is an amazing website, offering thousands of quotations covering every topic from A to Z. The site offers a full Google search engine – which is helpful if you’re looking for a specific quote – as well as an index categorized by author or topic. This is especially helpful if you’re writing a holiday card and want to include an inspirational quote, but need something fitting to say.

BrainyQuote’s index by Authors also allows you to peek into some of the lesser known quotes, enabling you to discover some interesting aspects of a famous person. Most people know the famous Abraham Lincoln speech at Gettysburg, but did you also know he said, “Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?”

The site offers direct sharing to a wide host of social media platforms, and also features the ability to e-mail and print quotes. Ads are present on the site, but not intrusive, and the quotations are provided free of charge.

P.S. Want to know the correct way to quote something? There are three major standards (MLA, AP and Chicago), but getting a direct answer out of an editor on the “right” way is impossible because there is no single, accepted right way for every situation. The best way I’ve found to convey a quotation is to write the actual words written or spoken by the person, followed by a dash and the appropriate attribution. Example: “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” – Abraham Lincoln.
