Can the touch screen on the blackberry 9900 be easily turn off and on?
The Blackberry 9900 is a touchscreen phone and there’s no option to turn it off. Turning off the touchscreen on a touchscreen phone would render many of the functions useless. The selling point of the 9900 is that it is a touchscreen smartphone that still has a fully functional physical keyboard.
The issue for the struggling Blackberry brand is that they want to offer a touchscreen smartphone with apps to stay competitive with Android and iPhone, but Blackberry users tend to love the device for the keyboard. There is a way to lock the screen for some functions, but it is limited.
You won’t be able to lock the touchscreen and still use the keyboard to type e-mails or perform other functions on the phone.
There are apps like GlassLock which costs $1.99 in the BlackBerry App Store that will temporarily lock your screen to prevent pocket dialing but still allow you to answer incoming calls. But it will also lock your keypad, so you’ll only be able to use your phone for making voice calls.
If you’re having an issue with something like pocket dialing, you should consider shortening the time delay before the phone locks or make sure to tap the power button to turn on the screen lock. If you just don’t enjoy the touchscreen interface, you are are out of luck.
I’ve seen a lot of complaints where users say this particular phone takes actions when they haven’t touched the touchscreen. I’m not sure if it’s an actual issue with the design of the phone or if the users just aren’t accustomed to touchscreens.
