Change Desktop Background

Cody asks,

I have one of your pics as my desktop background, cannot change it, how do I get this one off?

Hi Cody,

You didn’t provide a lot of information, but if you want to change your wallpaper, you do so under Control Panel and Display settings. An easy way in newer Windows versions, from Vista on, would be to right click on a blank spot on your desktop and click on Personalize in the menu that pops up.

This shows you all the themes and backgrounds available. You can always choose one of the default themes. If you want to change your current wallpaper to another picture you have saved, simply click on Desktop background at the bottom, and you can then browse to another picture you have saved on your computer.

I change my desktop background every few months just to create some diversification in my life. I strive for humorous pics when I can copy, scan, etc. to a file on my PC. Right now I have the smiling face of Foxie, my Pomeranian, grinning at me. She always makes my day complete.

I want to thank all of you for the fantastic work that the staff is doing in educating novice users like myself. I have learned a great deal by reading your newsletters, the articles are extremely informative. Subscribing was the best thing I have done.

I like to personalize my wallpaper. I have a folder of all pics which I uses as screen saver too. Love your pictures and use your pictures as my wallpaper which changes randomly.

I love the wolves from MSN

Any time I see an interesting picture I’ll right-click and from the drop down menu I’ll click ‘set as desktop background’. I change mine quite often

When I got my first computer, seems like eons ago, I wanted to personalize as much as I could. I don’t use standard desktop icons or folders and quickly learned how to create my own wallpaper, downloaded many from various sites, did image searches and, of course, used some of the ones from the Computer Tips newsletters. I change my wallpaper every few months, sort of as season’s change and use holiday related images for those special times.

I use our family pictures for our screen savers, which change about every 5 minutes if you don’t touch your system. For Wallpaper, I use a shot of me shooting a Thompson SMG in Vegas. One of the things a lot of people don’t do is to also change your sound prompts. When my system boots up with my SMG shoot, I also have a sound file of a machine gun burst. Adds to your computer character. Also, when my system shuts down, I have the sound of a toilet flushing. Really adds character. By the way, your site really rocks with all the info you provide. Not bad from some old 70 year old, right?

Have used Webshots since 2000 (it’s changed companies a couple of times, renamed itself – then renamed back, and been rewritten). Started out with their free version (which they still have albeit not as robust) and now have their Premium version. It has it’s own ‘desktop’ – doesn’t replace Windows but does have various features for displays. Also provides a screensaver feature.

  9. Ron says:

I like to make my own! Just compile pictures that you want in a file in My Pictures. After you put in as many as you want, Open the folder and highlight all of the pictures and right click and select set as desk top background. And enjoy!
