Change System Language In Windows 10 Home

Wednesday, April 26th, 2017 by | Filed Under: Computer Terms, Desktop Enhancement, Windows 10

Hello everyone! Welcome to another tutorial.

I discovered a few months ago when I wanted to change my Windows system default language to take some screenshots in Spanish, most of the PCs that come with Windows 10 preinstalled, have the Home Single Language edition. And it turns out,  there is no simple way to change between system languages as there was in previous Windows releases. Many users have found this issue after updating to Windows 10 from a base system in a different language, or because the region or country was changed before the update and they ended up with an unwanted language setting with no way to change it

Hey, but not everything is lost! We are talking about computers here and there are always alternative paths. After doing some research and having done some tests this in my PC, I could change the system language with no additional software, patches or weird methods. All you will need is your Command Prompt window and some commands, let’s do it!

First, check that you positively have a Single Language edition and you are not able to change the language.

Go to Control Panel > Clock, Language and Region > Language

There you can see the language that you have already installed and configured.

In this tutorial I will change Windows language from English to Spanish, let’s try with the conventional way. Click on “Add a language”

Select the language that you want to add. In this case, Español and then click Options.

If you get the “Unavailable in this version of Windows” message, then you are running a Single Language edition, keep reading this tutorial.

At this point, you can either cry, get an upgraded license like a Professional edition. or downgrade to Windows 7 or 8. I offer you another option, since maybe you don’t to pay for an upgrade just to get to change your language, or waste time and risk information changing or reinstalling your OS and programs.

Tomorrow, in part 2 of this article, we’ll take a look at Dism.exe tool, which will allow us to change the language package that we have installed from the Command Prompt.

IMPORTANT: Before this, make sure that the account that you are logged in has Administrator rights. Also check the version and build of your Windows 10, this is very important because you have to download the correct language package for your version, if you pick a wrong one, it won’t install. Also, pay attention to the system architecture (32/64 bits).

You can easily check this by following these steps. First, go to Start, type run and click on the app.

Type winver in the window that opens and click OK.

You got it! Now check the version and build.

Don’t panic if you don’t have the same Version or build as I do. At the end of the tutorial, I’ll provide links to download language packages for several versions.

Okay, now that we have checked our system, we’ll proceed to changing the language  tomorrow in part 2 of this tutorial.
