Vera from Joliet, IL asks:
Is there a way to set font style and size as default in Gmail?
Hi Vera, and thanks for the great question. If you don’t like the font Gmail uses when you type an email, you will be glad to know you can easily change the default font to something you like better. You can even change the color of the font if you want to.
Open Gmail on your computer and log into your account using your Gmail email address and password.

Click Settings (the wrench icon) in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, and then click Labs.

Find Default Text Styling in the list and select Enable.

Click Save Changes at the bottom of the screen.
Click the Settings (wrench) icon again in the upper right corner, and then click Mail Settings.

The Mail settings window opens to the General Settings options. Look for Default Text Style in the list of settings.

You can use the Bold, Italic, Font, Size, and Text buttons to make your desired formatting.
When you are finished, be sure to click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the screen.
When you compose a new email, you will see your default font has changed to what you changed it to on the Settings screen. Each email from this point on will show this default font unless you change it back.
We hope this tip has been helpful for you.

I am new to gmail so this was a great tip . While I was in there doing this I also tweaked a few other things I didn’t know existed . Thanks….
This was great! I was so sick of changing each & every outgoing e-mail to my own “special way”. I had no idea that I could make it permanent. The steps were a little different in my gmail, but I found lots of other things I could do, too! Thanks.
Great tip, except for one small detail: you click on the gear icon, not the wrench icon. The photo was correct, but not the text. (After you have signed in…) Otherwise, great tip! Thanks
I used the tip to set the font for the emails I send in Gmail but the rest of the text on the screen is as small as what is in this box. It hasn’t always been that way. How could I have accidently changed the screen size? Thanks, JC
I looked for a way to do this but couldn’t figure it out. Thanks a lot. Now I would like to know how to increase the font size in my main page. The letters are pretty small. I don’t want to do the “alt + mouse wheel” every time.
This was a GREAT tip. I’ve been trying to do this for years.
The procedure given for changing font and text styles only seems to work when composing new emails. What about when replying to emails? This still seems to be in the default gmail font. Can this be changed as well?
Thanks
