By default, OpenOffice saves files in an OpenOffice format, which can lead to problems when these files are sent to users of other brands of office software.
One way to get around this is to use Save as… to save individual files in different formats. Or, you can change the settings to save all OpenOffice documents in a different format. That’s what we’ll be doing here. For example, if you want to save your OpenOffice Writer documents in Microsoft Word format, start by selecting Tools, then Options.
In the Options window, open the Load/Save section (1) and click on General. Then, in the Document type field (2), select Text document and in the Always save as dropdown menu, select Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP.
Once you’ve made these changes, all future OpenOffice files will be saved in this format.
It’s just that simple.
