Chrome 101: History, Downloads, And Bookmarks

Monday, February 20th, 2017 by | Filed Under: File & Disk Management, Using The Internet

Our look at the world’s most popular browser, Google Chrome, continues today as we explore history, downloads, and bookmarks.  You’ll find these options when you click the little 3-dot menu icon on the upper right of the browser.

History will show you recently closed pages.  Click on any of the displayed pages to open them.

Click Downloads to see items that you’ve recently downloaded using the Chrome browser.

You can also search for downloaded items.

Now, let’s check out Bookmarks.

You’ll see a menu with several options.

You can choose to bookmark the page you’re on or bookmark all of your open tabs.

You can also bookmark a page by clicking the star icon at the far right of your address bar.

If you want to see your favorite pages displayed at the top of your browser, click Show Bookmarks Bar.

Your bookmarks will be displayed at the top of the browser, just below the address bar.

Click Bookmarks Manager and you’ll be able to organize your bookmarks.

You can create folders to hold particular groups of bookmarks. You could choose a category like “sports” or “work.”  Or create folders to hold the bookmarks for a particular subject you’re researching. Click the drop-down arrow by Folders to create a new folder.

You can click on any bookmark in the right pane and drag it into a folder or to your bookmarks bar.

You can just click and drag bookmarks to arrange them. Or click the arrow next to Organize to reorder your bookmarks or to import or export.

If you click Import Bookmarks and Settings...

…you can import your favorites/bookmarks as well as your settings for things like browsing history, passwords, autofill, and search engines from Firefox or Internet Explorer.

We’ll look at more Chrome options in the third part of this series.
