I was really curious about how much data I’ve been using in the Cloud during a regular day. I want to figure this out for two reasons: 1) I’m thinking about switching to a lower data plan to save some cash on my phone bill. 2) I’ve been thinking a lot about data consumption because of my coursework.
Do I really need unlimited data if I’m only using a small amount a month? The answer is probably no. On the other hand my use of data storage like DropBox, Google Drive, and One Drive has really picked up as I share documents with my cohort, or my class work to my folders.
The calculator is really easy to use. All you have to do is move the slider to the number that matches your usage for the day. So how many e-mails do you send a day? How many emails do you send that have attachments? Slide it to the number and move onto the next question. As you fill this out, it calculates your data usage in the bar graph to the right of the page.
You can also use the dropdown boxes on each field to calculate for monthly totals instead of daily totals.
After you’ve finished totaling your data, you can share the bar graph on the right with the Share my Results link. It will then provide you with an the option of sharing your results over Facebook or Twitter.
Another thing you should check out while you are using the calculator is how many gigabytes of data you have that is potentially private.
My results are 14gb of data use per month with a whopping 12 gb that is private data.
