How can I copy a Google doc. into Microsoft Word?
Nancy, this is an interesting question. Fortunately, there are a couple of ways of copying a Google document into Microsoft Word. Let’s take a look at them.
Method 1 – Simple Copy and Paste
This method is similar to how you copy text from one Microsoft Word document to another. A fellow WorldStart writer has written a wonderful tip on this procedure – Cut and Paste . In a nutshell, you’ll first go to the Google document and then select the text and images you want to copy from the Google doc. To select the entire document, press the Ctrl + A keys on your keyboard. Next, press the Ctrl + C keys to copy the selected text. To paste the text in Microsoft Word, launch Microsoft Word and then press Ctrl + V to paste the copied text into the Microsoft Word document.
Caution: Do not use the built-in Edit>Copy command in Google Docs. You will most probably get an error, similar to the one shown below.
Method 2 – Save as .doc
After you’ve created the document by using Google docs, you can save the file in Microsoft Word format and then open it by using Microsoft Word. Let’s see how to do this.
1. Click the File menu in Google docs.
2. Click Download as and then click Word, as shown below.
3. The Opening dialog box appears, as shown below. In this dialog box, select:
Open with: To open the Google document using Microsoft Word.
Save File: To save the Google document in .doc format. The file will be saved in your local hard drive and you can open it using Microsoft Word.
4. Click the OK button.
You’ll notice that the second method is very similar to using the Save as command in Microsoft Word. The only difference being that Google Docs calls it Download as.
