Monday, July 8th, 2013 by | Filed Under: Android, Digital Photography, Smartphones

Have you ever lost your phone? You might say it will never happen to you, but the statistics are not in your favor. According to recent studies, mobile phone theft has increased 25% in the last three years.

All those photos you took of your kids and pets are all gone, taken away forever because someone reached into your pocket or snapped your handbag while you were walking on the way to work. No one wants that sinking feeling of regret or frustration of losing their phone especially when you know that you should of just backed up your phone. You have probably heard you could back up your phones photos but you just don’t know exactly how. Well this article can help. After reading, make sure you taken action immediately! Than you can feel secure knowing that you have done something that the majority of people do not do.

If you use Dropbox, then you know how easy it is to have access to your documents anywhere without worrying about losing them if something happens to your computer. If you have never used Dropbox then do not sweat it, I will show you exactly how to install it and begin using it straight away.

We have already covered how to backup your photos if you are an iPhone user, but what if you just received the mighty Samsung Galaxy S4 which comes with an impressive 50GB of storage with Dropbox? If you are brand new to Android than this article is perfect for you, but it assumes that you already have your Gmail account linked with your Android phone.

If you have already installed Dropbox on your device, then you can skip the first step.

Dropbox Tutorial 1

Simply open up the play store on your phone by tapping the icon and than press the magnifying glass.

dropbox keyboard

A keyboard should appear and you simply type “Dropbox”. With luck, Dropbox should be the first app to appear.

 Dropbox Install

Click on the Dropbox icon and then click Install.

 Dropbox setup

When it has fully installed, (you will see a notification on top of the screen) we open up Dropbox on your Android device and create an account, if you have not done so already. Simply enter your e-mail address and follow the prompts.

Selecting Camera Upload

Once your account is created, we have two ways to back up your photos. The first is to open up the Dropbox app and select the camera icon. From there you should get a prompt to allow automatic uploading of all your photos. Leave your phone connected to Wi-Fi, go away and make yourself a cup of coffee, then come back and see that all your photos have been uploaded and saved to Dropbox.

Dropbox share to Gallery

The other option is to open up your gallery on your phone. Select the picture you want to save to Dropbox. Then press the “Share via” button as seen above.

Now that you have saved all your memories to Dropbox, you never have to worry about your whole life going missing when you upgrade your phone or  heaven forbid, lose your phone. You can even download Dropbox on your tablet or computer, so you can access your photos from different devices. Its also great because with Dropbox you can actually share your photos with any device even iPhones. Remember to regularly backup to Dropbox if you take lots of pictures or have important documents to read.
