You might be asking yourself, “What is CrossFit?” and “How does it apply to kids?” Well, CrossFit is a style of fitness program that focuses on strength and conditioning across a wide range of styles combining gymnastics, weight lifting, and sprinting. It promotes cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy.
What the CrossFit Kids site does is develop workouts in this style that are applicable to children. On the main page, blog style, you’ll find different workout routines posted daily. These routines can also be scaled up or down in difficulty depending on your child’s age and ability.
Some sections to check out are:
Exercise Demos – here you will find videos demonstrating the exercises. You can find most of the videos in .WMA format or .MOV. There are also self defense movies to help your child learn to defend themselves.
Glossary – this is a very helpful section, because it explains what the terminology on the site means.
CrossFit 101 – I recommend this section highly too, this explains what the goals of CrossFit are for your child. It goes section by section and discusses the practicality of the skills, as well as, the health benefits.
Most importantly I think this could be a very fun way to exercise with your children!
