Q:
For some reason when I went to open some of my documents, some of them came up with this little ~$ sign before the name of the document omitting the first one or two letters of the document. What does this mean?

A:
That is a hidden temporary file that is created when you have a document open. It's where all the new data you type sits until you Save the changes.

Sometimes they stay on your system after you close, or if the system crashes with the doc opened. If you don't have any documents open, then you can delete them with no worries. The original should still be there.

Tip of the Day

Hitting the Target

Have you ever needed to get at a program's folder? Usually, it involves opening Windows Explorer, then the Program Files folder, then sifting around through all the sub-folders until you find what you're looking for. Heck, even then you sometimes have to sort through more sub-folder before you actually get to where you want to go.

There's gotta be a better way, right?

Yup, there is. After all, this wouldn't be much of a tip if I would have answered "no"!

Anyhow, to quickly get to a program's folder, hold down the ALT key and double-click the program's icon. A "Properties" screen will be displayed.

Hit the "Find Target" button.

Windows will open the folder for you.

Now you can see all the files in the Program Folder, including the main program (.exe file).

Amanda's Cool Site of the Day

Kermitage

Don't you just love the Muppets? Well if you don't your kids probably do. For those of you like me, who can remember growing up on Muppet movies, Sesame Street, and McDonald Muppet toys then you'll love this site.

Revisit the Muppet years by selecting The Episode Guide. You can then visit the first five Muppet TV seasons. Each season will come up with an array of pictures. When you roll over the pictures of each episode it will tell you what non-Muppet celebrity was featured on that show. Click on the picture and you get a full debriefing of what happened.

You can also go through the Character Guide. This is organized alphabetically—choose the letter you would like to begin with. For time saving purposes I chose "A" (besides, Animal is one of my favorite characters). There were tons of characters whose names started with A, including Miss Piggy's rival Annie Sue.

You get a brief description of the characters life and purpose on the show and even the episode number they starred in. You can click on the episode number to get further info on that particular show.

Start remembering, or learning about those famous Muppets when they all started out. I hope you enjoy your day with the Muppets.
