Cyber criminals are targeting schools with ransomware. These crooks are impersonating government education officials and calling schools saying they need the email address of the principal so they can send important information to the school.
Once they have the address, the crooks send an email that appears to have some type of Office document attached to the principal. Instead of important information from the Department of Education, users are actually opening ransomware that will lock their computer.
Crooks will then demand a nearly $10,000 ransom to unlock the files.
This only goes to point out that it’s vitally important that everyone is any organization be trained on basic cyber-security measures. Be very careful before you open any attachment.
