Thanks to the magic of the World Wide Web and mobile devices, ordering things is usually never more than a few taps on your phone or tablet away.
There’s a product from online mega-retailer that wants to take that a step further and eliminate the need to have your mobile device on hand to reorder. Imagine being able to press a button on your washer or kitchen cabinet to instantly re-order a product.
Now this isn’t some feature in George Jetson’s kitchen, (if you’re too young to get the reference I do apologize. Go ahead and Google it) it’s available right now for Amazon users.
But you will have to first be a Prime members and you do need to pay $4.99 each to buy these magic buttons.
They’re called Amazon Dash Buttons and they connect automatically to your Amazon account and re-order products that will be shipped to your house.
For example, you could have a Tide button on your washer.
A razor button on your medicine cabinet, dish detergent button on the outside of your dishwasher, macaroni and cheese button on your kitchen cabinet and baby wipes on your changing table.
The buttons attach via a hanging loop or you can use the adhesive back to mount it just about anywhere. Right now there are dozens of different dash buttons available for everything from household supplies to grocery items to pet supplies to baby supplies and razors.
Each of these buttons will connect to your home WiFi. You’ll need to download the Dash app for your iPhone or Android phone and set up your button. A green light will let you know that your order has successfully been processed.
To protect you from accidentally re-ordering, an order can’t be placed until the previous order has shipped, unless you set it up to allow multiple orders.
At $5 each, though, the dash buttons could really start to add up if you put them everywhere. This is just another example of how smart home technology is rapidly becoming an everyday thing in many homes.
