Daylight Saving Time

Daylight Saving Time

This past year, Daylight Saving Time changed for those of us living in the U.S., so I thought I’d write up this Web site to give everyone a heads up. Here you will find time change information for the European Union, as well as, other places all around the world.

We’re used to changing our clocks in April, but this year, it will be on March 9, 2008 at different times during the day, depending on your time zone. In Europe, it will be on March 30, 2008. This site gives you that information in an easy to read table, as well as, more information about the changes below the table. You’ll also find out where Daylight Saving Time is not observed and why.

It also explains the grammar behind Daylight Saving Time, including the common usage of the phrase and what you’ll find in the dictionary. You will also learn about important safety measures you should take at this time, such as changing the batteries in your smoke detectors.

On the side menu, you’ll find more sections about Daylight Saving Time and its history. I really enjoyed the Incidents and Anecdotes section, where you can see the interesting effect Daylight Saving Time has had on events and people from around the world. From thwarted bombings to catching trains on time to the controversy some locals had over it, Daylight Saving Time certainly has had an impact on history.

So, are you ready to spring forward? I must say, I’m certainly looking forward to more sunshine!

Daylight Saving Time

Are you still manually changing the time on your computer clock each time daylight saving time rolls around? If you are, there’s no more need to do that (unless you want to, of course).

In order to catch the next time change, double click on the clock (located in the bottom right hand corner of your desktop) and select the Time Zone tab. Under the map that is shown for the different time zones, there is a checkbox that says “Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes.” Make sure that is checked and from now on, your computer will change the time for you.

You’ll then have one less clock to change when you have to spring forward or fall back! Your computer is there to make some things easier for you, so why don’t you let it do this one thing for you? It’s a very cool feature that we can easily take advantage of.

Of course, we just passed the Spring time change, but you’ll be all set for the Fall when we have to do it again. You gotta love that, right?!
