Do I Need Another Browser?

Monday, June 22nd, 2015 by | Filed Under: Quick Tips, Using The Internet

Google Chrome’s recent decision to end Java support means that some sites just won’t work any more. Linda’s having even more problems: On some of my sites, Chrome does not work properly, so then I go to Internet Explorer and not it keeps coming up saying my browser is old and I should update. Because I have Vista Home, I cannot update to higher than Internet Explorer 9. I am in a vicious circle. Do you have ideas other than downloading another browser like Firefox?

Linda, you have the answer to your own question. I’d download Firefox ASAP. It only take a couple of minutes. In fact, I always suggest that everyone have multiple browsers on their PC, because you never know when you’re going to encounter an issue.

Click here to start your download.

I “do not” recommend Fire Fox as a browser for the simple fact that it is a lousy program, IE is the #1 browser and always will be in my book. I just uninstalled Fire Fox from my mother in-laws computer because it was messing her computer up and took to long doing anything. Fire fox would take forever to load on top on going from webpage to webpage. Once I uninstalled Fire Fox and made IE her main browser it took less than 2 seconds for the home page to come up and less than 3 to 5 seconds to go to the next webpage.

I’ve always had a somewhat negative attitude about anything MS although it’s a necessary evil. I believe Firefox is what the old Netscape browser would have become if AOL had not taken it over. Netscape, then Firefox are [almost] all I’ve ever used, with Internet Exploder temporarily thrown in only when absolutely necessary.

Chrome (and rightly so) is stopping with the constant updates and insecure nature of having “Flash” included with the browser That does not mean that Chrome will not use the program (a user can download it and update it manually). So stick with Chrome! Check out Firefox again because they have updated it and it’s better (not as good as Chrome though).

Keith, I think you’re confusing Java with Flash in this instance. Java will no longer function in Chrome by the end of 2015. They are disabling the ability to run it manually.
