Well it’s finally here—Windows Media Player 10. I know, I know, it may not be the favorite player for a lot of you, but you might change your tune. The new version brings some pretty exciting features to the table, and I for one am glad to see it. In order to get the updated player all you have to do is a simple Windows update, you should see WMP 10 in the list of available updates, check it for download, and install. You could also go out to the download site…
The first thing you’ll notice is that the interface has been completely overhauled and the old buttons are completely changed and rearranged. After the aesthetic changes sink in, you will notice the bevy of options that did not previously exist. For one you can finally Rip Cds straight to MP3s and not the hard to deal with WMA files MP previously offered as the only file format. You can view and rate your music, videos, and even photos through WMP 10 which may not be a big deal to you XP users, but it’s a nice feature never-the-less.
Another really cool feature is being able to buy music online right from within WMP 10, and not just from MSN Music (new for Oct). There are six different online music stores you can choose to get music from and your new music is placed directly into WMP 10 with no other intervention. If you have an MP3 player you may like this feature—the ability to synchronize between the WMP and your MP3 device with a click of the button, and not by opening up third party software. And for those of you who like to make CD’s to play in a regular CD player, you can do that now too.
All in all I really enjoy the changes made to WMP, I feel that it’s been streamlined and has made some necessary changes to make it very competitive with other players. Go out and get your update today.
