Boy, do I have something special to share with you today! This is something everyone can do for either a purpose or for pleasure. There are probably some people you know who have anniversaries, etc. coming up and you are probably going to be in the mood to give or send them a card. Right?! Or, maybe you just want to send someone very special a card just for fun. Well, either way, how about sending an e-card instead?! An e-card can be sent for just about any occasion. Holidays, Birthdays, Miss Yous, Love or just a way to express your feelings and put a simile on someone’s face!
E-cards eliminate paper, they get to their destinations much faster, you get to personalize them yourself and the best part is, they’re free!
What is an E-card?
If you are not familiar with e-cards or their terminology, they’re basically just electronic cards. That is, they’re sent through e-mail instead of through the regular mail. They’re received as e-mails as well, instead of a hard copy.
To start creating your own e-cards, go to 123Greetings.com. (There are several other sites available for e-cards, but this one is my favorite, so we’re going to focus on it today). Once you’re there, go ahead and click on the link or manually type in the Web site address. To begin, once you get to the Web site and you are on the homepage, go to the search box. The search box is located on the left hand side of the homepage. Type in the kind of card you would like to make in the search text box. In a couple of minutes, the search will return back to you with the results of e-cards that match the criteria you typed in. There will be images of cards to pick from. For example, I typed in Miss You and these are the results and images of cards I got back. Click Next or the page numbers to view more available cards.
This is the card I picked. After you have chosen an e-card, your card will appear on a page by itself. Click Personalize This E-card to begin. Some cards even have music with them. If you want, you can turn the music off by clicking the Off button on the picture. You can adjust the volume as well. When you send your card and the person opens it, the music will play for them. Unfortunately, you cannot put in your own music at this time, but the music that’s played usually goes along with the card very well.
How to Change the Background Color
Select a color form the background area. There are a variety of colors to pick from. There are even designer backgrounds if that’s what you’re looking for. For example, the Lovely Roses, Presents and Hearts are a few of my favorite backgrounds. I picked a cloud blue background color for my card. To check out the different backgrounds, pick a background you would like and click on the red arrow. It will bring you back to the top of the page to see a preview of the background color or design you chose.
How to Change the Font Color
Select a color from the font area. There are a variety of colors to pick from here as well. To test the different kinds of font colors, select the color you’d like the font to be. Then click the red arrow. It will bring you back to the top of the page to see a preview of the font color you selected. I picked a navy blue color for my e-card, because my background is a lighter color. Using contrasting colors like that shows up on the cards a lot better.
How to Change the Font Size
Select a font size form the font area. The font sizes are available in small, medium and large sizes. Click on the red arrow to see a preview of the font size you have chosen for your e-card. I suggest you pick a sort of larger font. It will be easy to read and it will catch your reader’s attention a lot more. Now, you are almost ready to send your e-card!
How to Send the E-Card
When you are finished with your final touches, click on Personalize This Card. Now, you will have to fill out a form. The form will include your name, your e-mail address and the name and e-mail address of the person you are sending it to. If you’re sending the e-card to more than one person, you will have to type their names and e-mail addresses in as well. You are allowed to send an e-card to at least 100 people. Just click on the Number of Recipients arrow and then select the number of people you’d like to send the e-card to. You can send them the same card or make different ones as well. You are also allowed to save your cards on the Web site for future references.
How to Add a Message
Enter a welcome greeting in the card’s header. You know, a nice warm greeting. Something like Hello, Hi or What’s Up? would be nice. Note: If you have more than one person you are sending the card to, you will not be able to personalize your card’s header. The names of the people you are sending the e-card to will appear in the card’s header as the Message Name or Card Header. The name or names of the person or people you are sending the card to will appear in the upper right hand corner of the card. If you are sending the card to one person, the welcome greeting will appear in the upper right hand corner.
Writing a Message
The message box section is where you type in your personal message. Whatever you would like to say or write goes there.
In the card footer section, type in your closing. Choose something like Goodbye, Take care or Stay in touch. When you’re done, click Preview and Send E-card. This will show you a preview of what the card will look like before you send it off. You can preview each e-card you made or the same card you made for different people. To do that, click on the arrow, pick the name of the card you would like to view and then click the Preview button. It will show you how each card would look separately with each person’s name on it.
There is another convenient feature you can put to use as well. You can pick the date and day you would like to send the card, if it’s not the same day you decide to complete the card. Therefore, if you forget the date, the e-card will be sent automatically. Cool, huh?! To do that, click Send E-card on This Chosen Date. It also puts a little calendar on the side for you to see the days and dates.
After you have sent the e-card, it will allow you to view what was sent. You can then send the card to someone else, make a hard copy of it or print it out.
I hope you have as much fun with your e-cards as I have had with mine. Now, go on and create some smiles! : )
