End Of The Line For Xbox 360

Wednesday, April 27th, 2016 by | Filed Under: Hardware & Peripherals, In The News

It’s all over for the Xbox 360 game console. After an impressive 10-year-run, Microsoft will stop production on the game console.

I can remember heading to the game store with my husband to pick our new Xbox 360 game console and being absolutely blown away by the quality of the graphics.  According to a post by the folks at Microsoft, over 78 billion hours of gaming took place on Xbox 360s.  Gamers played iconic games like Gears of War and Halo.

The company will sell off the remaining inventory of consoles, but no new ones will be made.

But the company says that current users do not need to worry.

Xbox 360 owners will continue to receive Xbox Live services for their game consoles. So they’ll be able to still enjoy multiplayer games and take full advantage of their XBox Live Gold memberships.

Cuurent Xbox Live 360 gamer servers will remain online and the game will be fully supported. And those with Xbox 360 consoles will still be able to purchase Xbox 360 games online. They’ll also be able to find them in stores while supplies last.

If there’s an issue with the hardware, users will still be able to get support from Xbox support.

If you’ve got an Xbox One, you can play Xbox 360 games using the backward compatibility feature of the console. But that compatibility applies to the games themselves, not the peripherals. So, you can’t Rockband with instruments through your Xbox One.

For now, your Xbox 360 games and console should continue to work with no issues. Of course, Microsoft could eventually decide to stop maintaining the servers for Xbox 360 only games.
