Exploring Internet Explorer: Part 2

Thursday, December 1st, 2016 by | Filed Under: Computer Terms, Using The Internet

Yesterday we took a look at Internet Explorer. It’s a familiar browser that’s gone through a lot of changes over the years. We clicked that little gear icon and started checking out all of the options on that drop-down menu. If you haven’t read that article yet, click here.  Today, we’ll continue exploring the features.

The next feature we’re checking out will look different depending on whether you’re using Windows 7, 8.1, or 10.  In Windows 7, you’ll see the option to Add the site to your Start Menu.  If you’re using 8.1 or 10, the option will be to Add to Apps.  This could be a good idea for a webmail site or something you need for work.  Otherwise, I would suggest keeping sites under favorites.

Your next option is View downloads, which is a great quick way to see what you’ve downloaded recently using Internet Explorer.

The next option is to manage add-ons.  For Internet Explorer this includes toolbars.

If you find that a website won’t load properly, consider trying Compatibility View.  It may take care of the problem.

Up next, we’ve got Internet Options.  Now that covers a whole bunch of things including privacy and security. In fact, so much that I’ll have an entire article about it on Monday.

Click About Internet Explorer to see what version you’re running.

Leaving this drop-down menu behind, let’s look at the other icons at the top of Internet Explorer.

Clicking the house icon will take you to your home page.

Clicking the star icon will show your favorites and your browsing history.

I’ll have more on Internet Explorer next week.
