Find Your Passwords In Firefox

Saturday, July 9th, 2016 by | Filed Under: Security Help, Using The Internet

I received a panicked question from a reader. She had passwords for important accounts, including sites she needed to log into in order to work from home, saved in the Firefox browser. But she couldn’t remember what those passwords were anymore.

Let’s take a look at how to find or edit your saved passwords in Firefox. First, click the Menu button at the top right. Choose Options from the Menu that opens.

Click Security.

Then Saved log-ins.

You’ll see a full list of saved logins. Just click Show Passwords to see the stored Passwords.

Highlight the password you wish to remove and click remove.

This is also where you can import passwords from Internet Explorer and Chrome by clicking Import. You’ll be walked right through the process.

I have had 3 (count ’em – three) tech people from our regional library system tell me that there is no way to figure out which of my bookmarked websites have saved passwords. We’re getting ready to get a new computer and I didn’t want to lose all my information in case I had forgotten to write it down. I am doing this tomorrow morning as soon as I get to work! THANK YOU!!!!!

This is a bit scary. What’s to prevent someone else from getting my passwords?

  3. Donna says:

Is there any way for me to copy the information so I can print it and keep it off site or copy it to a flash drive to keep off site in case of a disaster (computer dies, natural disaster like a fire or hurricane)? I don’t want to have to copy and paste line by line to put in a document. In case of illness or death, it might be a good thing for my trustee to have access to.
