Firefox Twitter Extensions

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010 by | Filed Under: Using The Internet

With the increasing popularity of Twitter and Firefox, several extensions have popped up to merge the two tools together. You have the options of having the full Twitter experience by being able to share parts of the site, the particular link you are reading, the whole page and many more. Listed below are some of the better ones. Make sure not to install all of them at once, as your Firefox browser may slow down considerably.

Twitter Search ( – this search plugin gives you quick access to the real-time Twitter search. The search engine will load right on to your Firefox browser, so you don’t have to keep changing webpages. You are able to search people as well as tweets left by users. Compared to other searches, you get to see things that people have posted within seconds and minutes.

Power Twitter ( – allows you to have an enhanced Twitter experience by letting you have several features straight from Firefox. Image wise, you can inline things like YouTube, Flickr, Google Maps and other playable/viewable media. You can also expand on links and narrow your search to a specific user. Facebook addicts will be happy about getting status updates posted straight away. Uploading photos and being able to customize Twitter settings allows you to have a colorful and fun time.

StockTwits ( – allows you to access a vast financial community with thousands of daily contributors. You can follow the stocks you like and search by ticker or company. For example, if you put in Pepsi Co., you will get the latest stock updates as well as tweets related to the company and stock flow. It shows you in real time, not only the talk of investors and traders, but also ideas. You can see how people who are into online trading will get quickly addicted to this extension.

Echofon ( –formerly known as Twitter fox, this add-on notifies you about your friends’ tweets instantly. It also syncs with the iPhone. You can use it in place of SMS-ing and attaching or uploading photos and videos. You can also search for nearby tweets or look at a map. It will save your searches and show you trends with explanations and offers an authenticated

TwitterBar ( – quickly allows you to access and update your Twitter without having to visit the website. You can post tweets directly from your address bar to your browser. It also lets you post the URL of the page you’re currently reading by clicking the twitterBar icon and search as well. This add-on is great for not adding too much clutter on your browser while still allowing you to do several functions.

Twitzer ( – a great tool when you just have too much to say and Twitter limits your character count. Twitzer lets people post tweets more than 140 characters. You can also expand on TinyURLs and links, so you know what you’re opening. Once you install Twitzer, you would log on as you would normally on Twitter and type it up in the update box. The character count will turn red and have a negative sign but you can ignore it and just keep going.

TwitBin ( –an extension that is much like Yahoo or AOL Instant messenger. It allows you to send and receive messages from your Twitter friends right off your browser. Imagine not having to wait a couple of minutes until your messenger loads. This feature consolidates two functions in one of Tweeting and messaging.

TwitKit ( – is versatile enough to run with Firefox on Windows, Mac, and Linux, so everyone can download it. It’s a sidebar that has a six-section interface with tabs. The tabs allow you to organize your content. For example, there is a ‘me’ tab which allows you to view stats about yourself like how many friends you’ve had, your location, how often you update, and more. Another is your friends and followers tab, which allows you to manage your network. Users will also be happy that there is an easy deletion option. Great to manage your overall Twitter account.

image ( –sometimes you love a particular song and have the urge to share it with your friends. gives you that capability so you can pass on music links with your network. All you would do is right click on a music link that you like, select ‘ Share this Song’ and it will get posted straight to your friends. If they have, they too can listen to music straight off their browser.

TwittyTunes ( – a little more filtered than, TwittyTunes gives you the option to decide how much or how little you want to share with your friends. It does not auto-submit each and every song you play on Twitter. You can also post websites that you’re visiting and videos that you are watching, so your friends can keep a close eye on exactly what you are doing.

These neat Firefox extensions have allowed us to cancel out the number of tabs we have open and do all of our Twit-obsessed activities from one browser. A natural supplement to Twitter, Firefox allows you to continue doing your Net-related work while still keeping close tabs on minute-by-minute details. These are some of the best add-ons that are recommended to give you the ultimate Twitter experience.
